Tough 1 (6 April)

Post by merry »

Now, we're missing two of our big hitters this week, so you're all going to have to work extra hard.... ;)

1 Whose likeness was found on 6 December 1912 in Tell el-Amarna, Egypt?

2 Where in the UK is the world’s only rotating boat lift?

3 Which ubiquitous tune was written by Mildred and Patty Hill?

4 Which fruit is affected by noble rot?

5 What race was won in 2024 by Dallas Seavey and 14 dogs?

6 What is the lowest staff rank in the British army?

7 Which rapper is known as MGK?

8 Which Guardian regular was the subject of a recent Pompidou Centre exhibition?

I’m pretty sure that’s Nefertiti. My neighbour had a necklace of her bust and I think I went to see it in a tiny museum in Berlin many many years ago.

6 What is the lowest staff rank in the British army?
I think this is a tricky question. Normally people talk about officer rank and soldier / NCO rank. The staff bit is higher up the officer rank and is generally people who wouldn’t normally be near the front line of the battlefield. I think the first of those is COLONEL.
Many lunches with a colleague who was married to a Major in the army has helped with this. Provided I have remembered correctly.

7 Which rapper is known as MGK?
Machine Gun Kelly
I have no idea how I know this.

5. The Iditarod dog sled race - it made a bit of news because the guy who won it this year is now the record holder for most wins.
8.The cartoonist Posy Simmonds
