Resting places of Robert the Bruce's heart. He died at Cardross, asking that his heart be taken on the pilgrimage to the Holy Land that he had failed to do in life. Then Sir James Douglas, who was wearing the heart as a pendant, only got as far as Spain to fight the Moorish invasion, and was taken down by a surprise attack. He flung the pendant containing the heart ahead of him, crying “Lead on brave heart, I’ll follow thee” before dying and being taken back to Scotland (with heart). Seriously, if you put this in a novel, people would think you're being too farfetched.
