8. Soft Cell wiith Tainted Love. In 1980 I was the first year rep on the Leeds Uni/Poly Ents committee and Marc Almond was on the same committee - he became an overnight superstar though he was a very dodgy bloke. The president was Andy Kershaw who went on to become a Radio 1 DJ and he was even dodgier. I will leave it to the reader to figure out the two word anagram of his name by which he was universally known!

Why does WR's comment about Andy Kershaw remind me of a former work colleague whose surname was Wrankmore?

Names can be strange. One of the people who sent out the annual Revenue Outturn forms from what was then the Dept of the Environment was a gentleman who rejoiced in the name of Mansukh Makwana. Another person in a central department with whom I dealt with occasionally had the name Titi Windapo IIRC.

And who could fail to eternally admire Moira Stewart to whom fell the duty to read - completely deadpan - on the news the unfortunate assassination of the foreign minister of South Korea in what was then called Burma; without even a hint of a quivering tremble of her lips she read the details of this tragedy concerning Lee Bum Suk.

That's enough lowering of the tone from me for one day, I think. :devil

Not lowering the tone but slightly amusing was a former colleague of mine whose name was Aula Robertson. Nothing amusiing there but it caused a great deal of mirth when she announced her engagement to a guy called Steve Board. She wisely kept her maiden name.
