GAIA at Tewkesbury Abbey

Post by merry »

We heard this beauty was to be displayed at Tewkesbury Abbey this month, so yesterday Mr M, Juliet and I set out to see it.

It was well worth it!

We arrived to find Tewkesbury flooded, as it does, and had to walk along a narrow high path along the side of what is sometimes :lol the cricket pitch

The Abbey looked beautiful, dressed in new spring crocuses

The Abbey is free to enter from 9-4 daily, so we got to see this fabulous thing for nothing, although apparently it really comes into its own after dark, as it is lit from within. We were too mean to buy tickets for after-dark, but did leave a sizeable donation for Abbey upkeep, as we are so lucky to have this magnificent 1000 year old building in little Tewkesbury, and they are exceptionally good at allowing the public to attend concerts and services with beautiful choir performances, for free.

Thank you, Patience! It really was. Did I mention it was slowly, continuously turning, too... just like the real thing.

It's doing a bit of a world tour... so keep an eye out north of the border!

I wish you had too, STPD :hugs

As you can probably imagine, Juliet and I spent 10 mins goggling at and photographing the exhibit, then another 45 in the Abbey Gift Shop, which is rather a good one... :lol

Looks like I missed it when it was near me 5 years ago but I have now seen merrys pictures of it. I probably would have seen it if I had known because I like things you can just walk about and look at.

Who pays for Tewkesbury things because nothing is really free is it someone somewhere is paying. Is council tax dear there or do they make enough from donations.

Interesting question, so I asked Wiki:

Absolutely lovely. The globe looks impressive! And I fondly remember visiting the Abbey with you and Juliet. But gosh...the flooding!!
