oh! oh! I was just wondering about that. The Americans have not got mine (considering how "close" we are), but you are the third to say you got mine, and I sent them a week ago.

I have no clue tbh. The international post here is very unreliable. Maybe it didn’t pass the custom clearance (which I didn’t see why it should not pass)

That's so annoying for you! (I only just sent mine to you today, because of logistics etc, so don't panic that you haven't gotten one from me yet.)anywhereis wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 1:33 am I sent the cards twice and twice it got lost![]()

Christmas cards?
I must write my Christmas cards for sending abroad this weekend.
Then I need to get stamps. This is not easy. The local post office has been open, closed, shut down under mysterious circumstances, open, closed and opened again in the last few years. It also moves location on a regular basis.
When I walked past today, I noticed it had a sign saying it will be closed for an hour at lunch every day. Bit like the 2 chemists in town and a couple of other shops. For the people that work normal hours, they open after we start work, close before we finish work and are shut when we are on lunch. And there are complaints there is not enough footfall?

You can order stamps on a Tesco order. (Maybe only UK ones though) The disappearing post office seems a national UK thing if its patiences as well. Mine kept closing in COVID then closing for unknown reasons and the other three nearest ones also closed and apparently no one wants to open post offices so nothing can be done now they are private. So I have to travel to the Crown post office and lucky we have one. That is inundated with ex bank customers since all the banks closed and has notices say not our fault banks make us do it they are rationed into accepting pittances ok cash and won't do anything without plastic card. Can also get stamps on Amazon but a lot are fake which is more spotted now they are bar codes and recipients need to pay fines.

Christmas cards?
I posted my Christmas cards for abroad the other day at the local post office (yes, we still have one!), and bought the stamps I need for the UK cards. I bought most of my cards in January when they were cheap to clear the stock but even so sending Christmas cards is a dear do now.
Like the late Chaircat Midge, I am not always right.

The price of stamps is shocking isn't it they could afford to give a free Christmas card away with every Christmas stamp. Its supposed to be because so many people and almost all businesses just want to use online now. But even email is on the way out utility companies don't do email questions anymore they want their version of chat because it disappears and every question is a brand new start from begining again question. Its not the same for Xmas though is it can't put emails up on the walls with ribbons and drawing pins. Do other countries do that or is it a silly English thing.

We don't do ribbons and drawing pins in Canada.Furby wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 6:53 am The price of stamps is shocking isn't it they could afford to give a free Christmas card away with every Christmas stamp. I'm not sure how big it is here. But often places like walmart and office supply stores and print places do photo cards. So it seems that it's still a thing.
It cost $40 to buy US and int'l stamps for 18-20 cards...I didn't use them all yet. But that's where it is. So that would mean when I do the rest of my cards, for Cda, US, Int'l, which is about 85-90, it'll be close to $120, I'm guessing.

Do other countries have local post offices closing. It's been happening for years now here in UK but since the COVID lockdown has really accelerated and both banks and post offices seem to be closing drastically. We have a problem at the other end of transaction here that even once stamps bought and letters posted in post boxes the postmen won't deliver them more than once a week maybe twice if lucky.
Christmas cards?
As far as I know and have experienced, I am living in an area where I still get door-to-door mail drop off. New neighbourhoods get the postal boxes specially located.
We tend to have postal offices in certain drugstores (Rexall and Shoppers Drug Mart) in my city. They must have some sort of contract. We also have drop boxes where they get picked at a certain time.
My parents are rural and have postal boxes in their hamlet, but an office in the nearest town, and as far I know in an actual gov't office vs where I get mine. I'd have to check; maybe they have some in their drugstores too.

Very much so. These days, most postal services are contracted out to book shops/dairies/service stations, and the mail only comes 2-3 times a week (I keep forgetting which ones.)Furby wrote: ↑Tue Nov 28, 2023 7:07 am Do other countries have local post offices closing. If I want to send a birthday card to someone who lives in a city 2 hours drive away, I have to make sure I send it a couple of weeks in advance. Like, it would take less time for me to physically walk there and hand deliver it.

Dear Merry o'th' Mill, thank you for the lovely card! I'm glad the Donkey Sanctuary is getting your support.
