August - peridots rain and bank holidays

Post by Furby »

Happy august.

On the old board I explained that august babies have miserable lives due to a shortage of peridots in their lives. Diamonds and rubies and sapphires are expensive but easier to get.

Its been raining and raining hasn't it which isn't helping furbies house and its problems. At least its not fires like Greece though its now been said the fires were arson like the northern moor wildfires were a few years back.

Its a bank holiday at end of august but doesn't help me now i don't work. Banks when they do work are reducing their hours to 9.30 to 3 like in the olden days. In the olden days they needed to to cash up but they limit cash transactions now so not sure what the excuse is this century.

It’s my niece’s birthday today, I wonder if she knows about the shortage of birth stones.

Nothing much is happening. Lopsie is still fat and rarely moves. However this morning she ran me over in the rush to get in from the back garden. She can certainly move when she wants to.

The weather is due to improve from next Wednesday in Ecclesland. I'm not sure about Furbyland or Patienceland as the jetstream isn't predicted to move very far north.

Google weather says rain until Thursday here.

A pensions minister has suggested pensioners do takeaway delivery jobs to get extra money. Doesn't seem that cunning a plan because pensioners able to work could keep doing their own higher paid jobs and those unable to keep doing their existing work probably can't do takeaway deliveries either.

I struggle to carry my own shopping home and can't drive so wouldnt suit me as a job.

I had a parcel delivered today by a woman who looked close to pensionable age. She drove a small red hatchback.

Thank you for the new topic, Furby!

I remember that post. Both Mr M and STPD have August birthdays... which makes MY Augusts miserable... due to major birthday expenses :D

Went down to Cheltenham today for Mr M's stroke review with his consultant. The consultant was so pleased with his progress!!

It's good to know that Mr M is making good progress.

I am waiting to be told officially that my ultrasound scan was clear. Then I can take out the insurance for my Portugal trip next year; however, if I haven't heard by mid-August I'll take out the insurance over the phone and tell them about the scan and the verbal result I was given.

Good news Mr merry is pleasing consultants with progress. The hospital seemed to have silly tests such as can he make tea and toast with savers teabags and plastic bread and without bone China cups and most civilised people would struggle. Do the consultants have tests better suited to Mr merry.

My getting some builders is moving on so far they have agreed to come out but not yet agreed a day to start. Dealing with governments is still at the hanging on the telephone stage. I got a furbyland one account and contacted local government that way but national government has fiendishly difficult register process that has previously rejected me.

One of my builders only takes cash and transfer by mobile phones. This one isn't a large sum of money but it's a worrying trend bypassing the bank systems that even though banks are evil at least have some consumer protections with cards . Cheques were my favourite but for dinosaurs now as banks won't let you pay them in easily. Could not believe they refuse to accept at counters now what are banks jobs anyway. Luckily I knew about the post office but how long will that continue .

My trials with new computer tech continue. It used to be exciting new shiny toy etc now its drat and double drat where the tablet police have said furby knows where this is where shall we hide it to stop her finding it or better yet let's discontinue it entirely.

That was true of the people who cleared Mum's house in 2018 as well but I didn't find out until they had completed the task. So they accepted that I would set them up as a payee on my bank account, I would go home and do all that and pay them the money by fast transfer so that they got it the same day - Lloyds don't charge me anything for that. That all worked smoothly but the lack of a paper invoice offended my accountancy sensibilities; however I contented myself with the thought that at least there was the electronic version of a paper trail.

We all know the dangers of paying large sums in cash!

I tried the pc bank transfer thing to one of my own other accounts and it replied with the "emergency cannot see exterminate " type message saying I was high risk and a likely scam. I had a choice of options to explain my scam none of which include paying myself so had to pick family and it did it then. Dread to think what happens if its something really bad being done. I don't think I can ever use mobile phones for banking they are too small screens. Probably I will have to get a tablet with a sim once apps are the only payment choice.

I've paid plumbing, pond work and car bills by bank transfer for the last few years. I hope they don't insist on an app because I'm not happy to put banking details on my phone. I'd rather do it on the PC and get double password protection with phone confirmation.

A year or so ago I decided to invest a large sum that was in my current account by transferring it by bank transfer to my Fidelity investment account. The instructions from Fidelity were clear but I forgot to include the investment record number that Fidelity assigned to the transaction on my bank transfer and the whole sum just disappeared! :eek

I got onto Fidelity and they said they'd find it and get back to me. Fortunately they did so and it finally appeared in my investment account but It was a bit of a worry until they found it. I've since done another transfer using the number supplied by Fidelity and it found its way to my account without a problem.

It never rains but it pours. Though actually the sun is here today.

I have one workman booked for tomorrow and now another different one has just texted to say they are doing their work tomorrow. I hope they dont clash with need for space. It did make me think how lucky I am working from home. When I was at work had to book a week off and hope the work was done in that time because no way could I say to work today can i have day off tomorrow.

It was sunny here too. I went abroad today, well, South Wales which is another country with its own language. I met up with my brother at Magor Marsh wildlife reserve during which Bro showed my his new camera system which is very light and as I'm not getting any younger, light is good. I feel an expense coming on. :eek

Oh go on, treat yourself, Eccs! :up glad you had a nice day.

Hope your workmen don't get in each others' way, Furby!

Juliet and I had a nice time in Woolwich with STPD yesterday. J and I came home this morning, but STPD won't be here till tomorrow - she is staying a few days for hers and Mr M's birthday, which is today!

I gave him a new watch (his broke very conveniently just in time for a birthday) and a garden table and other bits and pieces STPD is harder to buy for :) but she has a decent pile of gifts to come at the weekend, when we shall celebrate!

Happy birthday August merries.
My builders have both turned up which is very good.
My Amazon parcel is a less happy tale. After three attempts to get Amazon locker and always being full I ordered to my house and they sent royal mail. Tracking says not possible to identify address so it's going back. I checked my address on file and it's my address which royal mail delivered to for over 100 years. So annoying especially as I was worn out avoiding Amazon prime which is not easy and after four attempts stil! Haven't got my thing. Obviously not meant to be.
Cameras are forgotten and neglected these days with people using phones aren't they not by Eccles though.

Oh Furby. RM are a tale of disaster these days.

Pani noticed Google has no record of my address at all, if you put it into a search on Google maps, nothing can find it so it's a miracle anyone ever finds our house by satnav ever at all.

I shan't be in Chat tonight as STPD is home :D but please everyone else go as usual! Imagine my smiling face sitting there among you all, and silent for a change ;)
