Is June Bursting Out All Over?
At least she's having nice weather for it.
I visited the old gentleman in Winchester today. We had a good chat and I was with him for just under 1 hour. They should be moving to the new Home sometime this month, but it's a bit like the mountains of confection the British electorate were promised every general election in the 1960s and 1970s - always in the distance and never getting there. I hope it will be this month; things seem to be moving, they have appointed a new general manager for it.
Then I went on to KW because that was afternoon tea in the restaurant mainly for the volunteers but a lot of the apartment and bungalow people were there as well. I was greedy, shock horror - 2 scones with jam and clotted cream, a piece of cake and a cup of tea. Then I ambled round to KW Court (through Reception, it's all the same big building) where I do my duties, where I had reason to believe I might wangle a plate of fruit and a glass of non-alcoholic fruit punch. The fruit was sliced melon, grapes and segments of orange. I cheerfully consumed that, saw that it was just before 4 o'clock, and decided to come home - where Master Midge was sternly looking out through the kitchen window waiting for me to come home and feed him.
All in all, a nice day.

And while I think about it - not for too long - is the Schofield Affair an extreme case of Luvviedom Navelgazing? It's coming to something when the downfall of a television presenter is the lead item on BBC News.

Naughty OC for eating all those cakes, but nice OC too for visiting the Old Guy.
But the burning question is were the scones jam first or cream first?
Regarding Schofield, I think he was dangerously close to being guilty of grooming a minor so it is understandable that the affair is newsworthy although maybe not the lead item.

As was pointed out to me at the time by a chap called Derek who lives in one of the apartments; we had to do the scone cutting and spreading ourselves. I am a member of the 'jam first' brigade simply because I find it easier to spread clotted cream on jam rather than jam on clotted cream. Derek is a cream first chap. Either way, the scones were jolly good. But the burning question is were the scones jam first or cream first?

That sounds like a lovely tea, OC! and I agree, it's impossible to spread jam on top of a dollop of cream isn't it?

He did around 20 although I lost count at one stage. He was on for 2 and a half hours. You mentioned I'm still standing, which he did, but didn't do Don't go breaking my heart, or another favorite of mine, Daniel.

Is it really only 5 farewell tours seems to have been forever doesn't it.
With Philip Schofield saga I don't like these stores that drag on and on with stories that later turn out not the real tales. Maybe select committee will find out more though I am not sure MPs are best placed to judge on stories of affairs in workplaces and all that goes with keeping them secret or telling tales its still the same problem in the house of commons.
Scones is jam first for easiness reasons. In our house we had butter because cream isn't something you have in except special occasions and butter was first. Isn't it just Devon that does cream first to be different to Cornwall.

I think I probably prefer 'just' butter and jam too!
My dear friend Tom (TRavine!) is arriving tomorrow for a few days! I shall be picking him up from Moreton in Marsh at around noon, I hope. His train journey is complicated by the tunnel collapse thing.... it is due to be completed by Friday, so going back should be ok. So he'll have to come Stansted-Liverpool St - Marylebone - Oxford - Moreton, with a change of trains in there at Oxford.
Hoping to take him to some of the nicest places around here - Broadway, Tewkesbury, Winchcombe - and on Friday we are going to Oxford by train, with Juliet, as he's never been to Oxford, which is worth seeing.

I think it's great that Tom is going to enjoy the hospitality of Merry Towers! There is so much to see round there even without a trip to Oxford. And the guest bedroom is very nicely appointed.................
Have fun all of you!

Its the hottest weekend this year so far say the weathermen so have a good weekend. I hope our terrible English public transport systems get visitors where they need to get to.. On a day oitnit used to be will of be raining now we have to add will trains even bother running to considerations.

It was lovely and warm yesterday, after Tom arrived and shed his sunshine around
(apparently the sun always shines in England for Tom.)
We had the most lovely day, though it started badly with me getting lost on the way to collect him. There was a road closure when I was nearly all the way to Stow (on the way to the station) and it is like a hilly, twisty maze up there with single track roads and NO SIGNPOSTS. I think you are meant to navigate like a bird does on instinct. There were obviously no phone masts either as just when I really needed it Google maps said I had vanished off the face of the earth. I set out at 11.11.30 and arrived at Moreton (a 20 minute drive) an hour and a quarter later. Poor Tom was waiting there patiently, probably thinking I was a scammer off the internet and didn't really exist lol.
I'll maybe do a longer topic later but we had a lovely time, singing and making music with Mr M and Juliet, walking, visiting Winchcombe, Hailes Church and Abbey, and here we are at the Meteorite Museum!

Today is the last day of my fixed price contract with E.ON and as I haven't done anything I shall be moved over to their standard variable capped by HMG via Ofgem contract tomorrow. E.ON and I agree my current DD is nowhere near enough now that HMG's £67 is no more so they suggested £119.23 a month; I can't be doing with odd pence so I put it up slightly to £120 a month wef 1 July. That is manageable and I have adjusted my spreadsheet accordingly.
Midge and Mina are visiting their Physician this week; it is Midge's turn this afternoon and Mina's turn tomorrow. The cat hotel likes them to be flea checked and dewormed before staying there, so that's what the little darlings have to put up with this week. I shall print out copies of the invoices and results to take with them on 21 June when they go on their summer holidays.

The airport strikes start on 24 June at Heathrow. Will oc still be able to get back home.
Glad merry managed to get herself unlost in time. Maps should be forced to work off the location satellites if there's no mobile nearby. All this always be online or else is a bad move.
