My "kids" Juliet and her husband Sam are in Prague for a few days this week, it's a business trip for him but they are managing to do some sightseeing.

This is the Astronomical Clock - parts of the mechanism date from 1401, when it was built!

I read somewhere (and verified by me today) that the ceremonial uniforms worn by the Castle Guard soldiers in blue were designed/commissioned by the late President Vaclav Havel; he thought the former uniform was boring. There is both a summer and winter uniform, and J&S saw them in their winter uniform.
Like the late Chaircat Midge, I am not always right.

Great photos. I noticed that Sam got a nice smile from the blonde woman while snapping Juliet and the Clara look-alike photo. Juliet might have to watch those Czech women. ;)

So he did! :eek :rofl

Thanks for that, OC - I'll pass that on.

She sent some more pics today and I'll post them tomorrow. I bet you all can't wait haha :smug

Have they found any beer yet? I don't even like beer but its all I know about Prague its where people go to buy cheap beers.

Nice cobblestones arent there. A lot of cobbles near me have been tarmacced over. There's a little bit at the front of my park but other than that hardly any. Its supposed to be cheaper to maintain surfaces and easier to be suitable for disabled. So nice to see they still exist somewhere.

I am sure Juliet will say the same, Tom!

Yesterday: Sam was in his conference so J had a day to herself and used it well, visiting the Cathedral, and going up the Petřín Lookout Tower, though she got that funny 'fear of throwing my phone off the top' feeling (anyone else get that? I certainly do! never happy standing somewhere very high up until my phone is safely zipped away in my bag! ) and so didn't take a picture from the top level...great view though as you can see

Today, her last full day, she spent chasing after this cute Tourist Train which does a boneshaking 9km circuit round historical scenic Prague...

... but she never got on board :eek :sob

There was always a prebooked party of school-children, or - mysteriously - just when she thought she was finally getting on - the driver firmly locked the doors and drove it away empty!

So a frustrating last day - returning every hour in hopes of getting aboard the train - but the evening redeemed most of the disappointment as she had booked a ticket for a 'wanky concert' of violin music, Sarasate's Zigeunerweisen and such.

As you can see she wasn't the only audience :lol

This last one, she titled 'dishy wanky soloist' :rolleyes

Flying home tomorrow evening.

They will either chase the Cute Vanishing Little Train again or go to an aviation museum outside Prague.

Thank you all for your comments! she will love reading them when she comes home/

Hooray. I am glad they won the battle and got on the train. Seems no one else on it. Maybe Wednesday is school trips day or something.

Hooray for The Little Train That Could. Why was it at a bus stop?
That concert didn't appear to be very well attended. I think Juliet should offer to book the Winchcombe Brass Band, or even the Merry Ensemble; they might have done better.

I was sad for the Little Train but apparently were just first on and it filled up later, so it was a Happy Little Train.

I think it stops at bus stops not having its own stops?

Kids flew home last night and were home in their beds by 11 pm A wonderful trip apparently.

Last two pics:

Juliet said 'you didn't answer Furby's question' :blush - the answer is, apparently, that Sam drank nothing but beer!

He's not a big drinker at all but he does like a decent beer and Prague beer is apparently renowned :up

Juliet is more a cocktails kinda gal :)
