Mr M is in hospital (doing well)
Excellent news, Merry! Mr M and Juliet look very happy in the pic.

Like the late Chaircat Midge, I am not always right.

Well done Mr merry. What's the point of a kitchen test if he fails it again but gets let out anyway next day might as well just let him go. Is Mr merry well enough to remember what it was.

Great news that he's back home. Did you find out what the kitchen test actually was?
Good that Mr Merry was snapping out answers to Eggheads. I was watching a couple of backruns on iPlayer last night. One question presented to the challengers was "On which flower is the seedhead called a clock." Options were Dandelion, Iris, Buttercup.
There were four of them, having done well in the knockout stages, but they still got it wrong, choosing buttercup!
I wonder how the eggs keep a straight face sometimes.

The kitchen test was 'making tea and toast'
He may have failed it in the hospital but he is managing fine with it at home! This morning he got his own breakfast, cleaned the kitchen a bit, put a load of washing on and hung it up!!
He is active and lively and mentally totally all there. He has a couple of residual problems - he isn't typing well at present (probably the keyboard is too sensitive for his current rate of typing) although he can write with pen and paper perfectly well.
He is having a visual disturbance of some kind, seeing 'falling tetris blocks' all over the place (a bit of a weird one) which is disturbing - this isn't a new thing, he has suffered periods of it in the past - no doctor has ever been interested - but he's in good spirits and so am I.
The OT team are coming to the house on Tuesday morning - he spoke to them on the phone himself and acquitted himself brilliantly I thought. I'm not sure what they will do or suggest other than getting a grab handle fitted in the shower, which we have known we've needed for some time.
Thank you to all who have sent good wishes here - it means a lot

Hospitals evidently have crap bread and awful tea.
Glad he's doing well. It must be a big relief.

Very good news about Mr M. You must be relieved to have him home and delighted at his progress. Here’s to it continuing.

What a lovely picture!!! Oh Merry, I am so glad he is home and doing well. I am absolutely certain that with your care, he will soon make a full recovery.merry wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 9:58 amwhen she got back it was a 4 hour lecture on the cost of watching TV in an NHS hospital.![]()
I wish Mr M had had the option - the poor fellas in Acute Care C had nothing to do at all - I suppose they were considered too poorly - but anyway, the option of even astronomically-priced TV was never offered!
He failed the kitchen test againso whatever it was, seems like he won't be doing it
but the good news is, we were able to bring him home yesterday!!!!

He passed his own-home kitchen testas at 6.30 am I heard him up and about and raced down to find him making his usual breakfast, toast and marmalade and weetabix! I was astonished. It's amazing how much more in touch with reality he is now he's back at home among his own things!
I am not an early riser by choice, well, I wake early but have a nice leisurely start with coffee in bed, so this 6:30 am business was not a lot of funbut it is just so lovely to have him home and looking as if he will make a good recovery - cross everything!
Cognitively he seems more or less normal thank goodness, and has been snapping out answers to Eggheads and The Chase faster than the contestants![]()
Thank you to all of you who have wished us well, you can imagine how much that meant to me in the depths of despair and a bit lonely once Juliet went home - you are such good friends - THANK YOU![]()

I always imagine mr merry wearing a paper hat probably because a lot of pictures have been Xmas at home and he doesn't go on the holidays these days.

He is doing really well! almost back to normal though I still think it will be a while before he feels confident enough to go back to bowls, not least because obviously he can't drive yet and hates being dependent on others for transport.
The Early Release Stroke team have been amazing. Fitted rails to the tiles around our bath, added a bath board, and come out every week to assess his progress. Lovely, kind, supportive people with lots of practical ideas. NHS - five stars.

Great news Merry. He must be quite fit to make such a quick recovery.

Today, I had the horses to do so I left Mr M at Overbury (his bowls club) for a practice. He has not played since his stroke, and is a little.. anxious about it.
Bowls was a huge part of his life. He is a competition player of a high (local) standard, and runs his own team, so this is probably the last hurdle, as he has made good progress in other ways.... so how did it go?
I left him there alone... oh poor Mr Merry! Big landscape, one man on a bench outside the clubhouse:
... drove off to the horses, sorted the horses, returned....
... to find him pleased and happy!
Look at him go!

Oh, I am so pleased!!!

Getting back to Bowls is a big step for him and he looks to be having a really good time!
And he looks great! Like a real pro!
I would probably not even be able to lift the ball and then forget to let go and just fly after it. XD

Excellent - he looks in good shape. The top two photos look like a Spot the Bowl competition - place your cross where you think the bowl is!

Mr merry is cleverly wearing a hat which is essential outdoors these days. I am happy for him he is still able to play bowls.
Very strange bowling green just like in the olden days. Where are the big metal fences to prevent people sitting on the benches.

They probably do not need them, Furby. Overbury is a little village away from a major road though close enough to Tewkesbury to be convenient. The cricket club and the bowls club are up a little side road that leads to nowhere else. I have just taken a Streetview tour of the village, and it exudes a quietly understated opulence.Very strange bowling green just like in the olden days. Great news Merry.

It's relatively risk-free Tom. These bowls don't have holes in them like with ten pin bowling.would probably not even be able to lift the ball and then forget to let go and just fly after it.
