More Appenzellers. The pub looks familiar.

Out in the open this time near the Zugersee - three hours train ride from Appenzell including changing trains, I should think. Zug is the smallest of the full cantons in Switzerland.

Here's Nicolas and some of his Appenzeller chums playing a jolly tune for us.

I have not the slightest idea what this is all about, and I don't know what the clowns have to do with it. The yodelling herdsmen of Appenzell.

You've seen this group before on Page 6; they are from Canton Wallis which the French call Valais. One of them reminds me slightly of the American actor Stacey Keach.

This is from a playlist on YouTube, so if you stick with it there's some more snippets - not necessarily 100% traditional Swiss! In one of them the young people playing the handorgeln look like they got lost on the way to singing the Lumberjack Song with Michael Palin.

This group of happy yodellers are from the Spiez area in Canton Bern, by the shores of the Thunersee which I have had the pleasure of traversing on a lake steamer several times.

Here they are again, my favourite trio from the Tirol - this time without their hats. Peter shows he can play the accordion as well as the Jaws Harp and handorgel. The title of the tune Freitagsweis translates literally as Friday wise.

Today it's the turn of the Alpine Dancers and the Whirling Dirndls from the Tirol in Austria.

I absolutely loved those, OC.

My god though. When the men start kicking their legs and slapping their feet I was thinking, 'and WE'RE the laughing-stock of the world with our Morris dance?' :rofl

Tom took a little video in Kirchdorf the other day he's going to post of a nice Austrian village dance.

Here's Nicolas Senn accompanying some friends - they are playing Steiner Chibli. Our Nic is finding it difficult competing with the banjo.

Here is the typical Ländler they danced at the Maypole ceremony this year.

I like that! I see somebody has forgotten their lederhosen and white shirt.

Jodlerkonig Franzl spends a minute giving the audience their instructions and then starts singing.
