Where do we all live?
Where do we all live?
We seem to be a far-scattered lot across the globe. Inspired by Daisy's stunning Alaska pic I thought it would be nice if those of us who wish say where (broadly speaking) we are from and share a photograph?
I live in the Cotswolds, England, 15 mins from what is widely regarded as the most beautiful chocolate-box Cotswold Village of them all, Broadway, 15 mins in the other direction from an interesting (historically) Saxon village Winchcombe (many ties with the Tudors, esp Katharine Parr the last of Henry 8th's wives who lived at Sudeley Castle, 10 mins away); and half an hour from Tewkesbury, a run-down but wonderful small mediaeval town with a gorgeous Norman Abbey and a river.
My village is not interesting at all, but I like it: here it is from Google satellite. That's not my house with the arrow over it, I'll do another:
This is from my evening walks (summer only!) it's a three-mile circuit. I think this pic looks positively Constable-ish don't you?

Where do we all live?
Very wonderful topic, merry. I like it.
This is my native city Ogre (yeah, like monster
). It's a 30min. from capital city Riga where I'm working. In 20th century begin it was a resort city. There people came to relax and get their health back, but now it's not like that anymore. Anyway it's very beautiful city. I later will show more photos, but now enjoy this!

Where do we all live?
Oh, what a delightful topic!!
It's so interesting to learn where you all live!
I live in Austria - actually, I basically live in two places. I work in Vienna, where I live most of the time, in a shared flat, together with my sister. Vienna is a very historical place; it was the capital of the Habsburg Empire until the end of WWI and has plenty of historical buildings and interesting sights. It's also famous for its food and coffeehouses, and musicians such as Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn and Strauss.
We live pretty close to the centre of the city - the Ringstraße Boulevard is a good fifteen minute walk from our place, or three tram stops. In our street, there is a permanent, mostly Arabian, street market. Very multicultural.
On the weekends and on my days off, I often go home to Upper Austria (about two and a half hours from Vienna) where my parents live. They live in a middle-sized town at the Austrian Alpine Foothills, very idyllic. I love going for walks and hikes in the surrounding woods there. Thinking of moving back there permanently in a couple of years, but job opportunities are not as good as in the city.

Merry, the sky in your second pic is SOOO typical for England, I feel!
It always appears as if the clouds are so close, you can almost reach out and touch them. Where I live, the sky always seems much further away.

I think that second pic of mine is absolutely what people think of when they think of Ye Olde England
Ogre looks beautiful, Forsteriaana! I had never heard of it and I shall look it up. My geography is generally terrible! I hated it at school which is a shame as now I find it one of the most interesting things there can be, to learn about our beautiful planet, ruralities and cities alike.
Austria seems to be beautiful in both ways,, city and countryside. Tom. Really stunning. I love the look of that market! I'd be coming home draped in rugs and baskets and all sorts; after torturing Mr Thornton, shopping is my next best hobby
or at least it was until our lovely government decided to bankrupt the country.
So we have:
merry - England (merrie England !! ha!)
Tom - Austria
Forsteriaana - Latvia
Looking pretty cosmopolitan already! One of us should do a little world map with blots on it roughly where we all are not volunteering lol

What a wonderful idea, merry. I like it very much.

Well, yes, my city is not so popular, but it's ok.merry wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 6:16 pm Ogre looks beautiful, Forsteriaana! I had never heard of it and I shall look it up. Where do we all live?
This is a delightfully far-scattered group! I'm going to throw the curve way off now--I actually live in Hawaii! Born and raised here, and, well, there aren't too many anglophiles and Austenites as you might imagine! My town name is actually right up there with Ogre for oddness--it's called Volcano. It's a very small village, and I too have lots of cows around! They tend to go wandering in the night...
It's up in the mountains, so very different from what you typically see in Hawaii--I'm pasting the pictures from right near my house, but it's only about a 45 minute drive to the coast, so we do get to the beach fairly often.

Where do we all live?
As some of you know from my post on another topic, I live in Alaska. I am two miles from the beautiful Kenai River which has some of the best salmon fishing in all the world. I will try to post some more pictures when I get a chance.
Where do we all live?
I'll have to figure out a way to post this in a better resolution.

Oh, I like that, Tom!
I'm probably just above the O in North America on your map...I think.
I don't have any pictures yet, but I'll edit them in when I have a chance. I was going to ask before posting.
I live in Edmonton, AB, Canada...I'm only two time zones away from ColleenD.
My word, Cordelia...amazing! So exotic to me.

Wow, this is genius. Well done, Tom.

So how I wrote in day, there's a a few pics about my native city. You can see it in different seasons and in holidays. These umbrellas are placed in our country national holiday in 4th May and in 18th November. In 4th May we celebrating Independence day and in 18th November - Proclamation day, when our country was created. So it's like that. There are very beautiful!

Forsteriaana, I just realized that our contries have basically the same flag!!
Only the shade of red is slightly different. I never realized that!
Those pictures are beautiful! I LOVE the Christmas decorations. Can't wait for the Christmas markets to open here in Austria. (They will open them a bit later than usual this year, because of power being so expensive now, and all those Christmas lights will cost a fortune!)
Thanks to the snowed-in story I am already in the Christmas spirit, which is unusual for me, because that rarely happens to me before December.

I'm gobsmacked. You all live in utterly captivating places.
I currently live near Louisville, Kentucky for me husband's job (he's American but I forgive him, poor lad).
The last snowy picture is from a very lovely historic section of town. Since we're all thinking of Christmas. They've got some of the most beautiful Victorian houses there.

Pippa, you live in the States?!
I think that's a surprise to everyone!

It also makes the wheels in my brain turn in weird ways...your husband is American...y'all live in the South...you had children pretty young...you once mentioned that the shower scene from ROL really happened....just HOW autobiographical are your modern AUs???

(Probably just my brain making things up though!)
Those pics are beautiful!!!
