Garden Flowers

Post by merry »

Last year out on one of my evening walks I passed a crate of bare corms with a note 'Help yourself!'

Well, I love a freebie! :D They were quite large corms the size of huge onions and I didn't have a bag with me, so I could only manage four.

They looked dry and dead all through the winter, then produced some tall green leaves in spring, and flowered this month. A beautiful surprise! they are lovely!

I google-lensed my photograph of them and apparently they are 'Montbretia', which I'd never heard of.. The RHS informs me it 'can become a nuisance in some gardens if uncontrolled' - well, mine is planted in supermarket crates (my planters of choice these days!) - let's see if the bugger manages to escape from there!

The purple one is an aster and the yellow flowers are lovely dandelions I couldn't resist for their colour.

Well done Merry for taking up a super freebie!

It's actually a tall beer glass. It was the only thing i could find that was tall enough but not too wide.
