we avoided the puddles!

The walk from the station to the Aspen Centre was not a pleasant one, and was a little too long for Mr M, so I called a taxi once the appointment was done. A taxi driven by a lovely chap arrived literally within 2 minutes! and we were at the station in time to catch a train a full hour before the one I'd expected. We had coffee and a snack in the cafe there while we waited.

An unpleasant little outing, made better by meeting only nice people while we were out and about - clinic staff, taxi driver, station officials, cafe lady. All lovely.

The hernia is not to be operated on until Mr M can leave off his blood-thinner for one week; this came as a relief to Mr M as he was not looking forward to it! In the meantime, a truss has been suggested. I will have a look online.

It was very interesting to read of your experience, Eccles! I will read that out to Mr M. I'm glad it was so successful! That was in Lockdown year, wasn't it?

Yes it was. I think it was prior to full lockdown but precautions were being observed.
I thought it worthwhile mentioning my experience because I believe the NHS favours the open repair procedure as opposed to the laparoscopic procedure. If so you might consider whether it's worth the cost to have it done privately.

I came back very battered from my weekend in Woolwich! I seem to have an agonising shoulder (the pain is really sickening if I turn over half-asleep), and also have a very bruised bottom

from going flying over a crate and landing on a hard surface; finally I ran slap bang into a array of huge iron girders in "Mycaenae) and sliced open both shins. There were impressive blue bumps the size of turkey eggs on each shin but those have gone down now, leaving just a pair of bloody purplish wounds. (I'm not going to post a pic as I sent one round the family WhatsApp this morning and they did NOT like it

Gosh, Merry, that must have been a really horrible accident to cause you to be a war casualty!

I hope you are feeling better soon.

Meanwhile I had just received a phone call from Riviera Travel informing me that I have to travel from either Gatwick or Bristol, so I have opted for Gatwick. The flight is 2 1/2 hours to 3 hours and is 12:00 out and 08:55 (arriving 11:10) back. I have asked if an upgrade to Economy Premium or business class (TAP call it Executive) is possible but they won't be able to tell me until November/December.

Poor merry. Did they write in accident book and give free tickets as compensations or are the tickets with a waiver about falling over careless crates.

I am having lots of irritating things this week nothing seem to go to my plan. I am trying to keep calm as first world problems etc and I could be merry falling over a crate or on holiday in Rhodes.

Todays annoyance is dealing with my government which I did hope never to worry about 7 years ago but here we are. When you ring them its 50 minutes wait threatened and all they do is keep telling you to go online instead but the identity security bar is very high for people like me and I have had to give up on that before. I expect criminals can manage just fine. I had to give up phoning for today so that's on another days list.

And I have to get workmen out to repair a bit of my house which is always fun.

A while ago I joined "Nextdoor". It's a local chat messaging thingie for the immediate and surrounding neighbourhoods. Within reason you can choose which regions to monitor. There's whinges such as "my dog was attacked by an off-lead rottweiler" or kids making a noise and lately the bin crew strike in South Glos which has been going on for over a moth. But there's also a good deal of chatter on who can recommend a plumber/double glazing/car mechanic etc.
Worth a look for Furby maybe?
