Naughty BBC presenter

Post by eccles »

An unspecified BBC presenter is in the news for sending money to a teenager, gender very carefully unspecified, in exchange for explicit images. Several presenters have already stated that it wasn't them, namely Rylan Clark, Jeremy Vine and Gary Lineker. Lineker has already been on the naughty step so he had to put out a denial pretty quick. Nicky Campbell has referred a tweet that claimed it was him to the police saying it's time that someone took a stand. I'm not sure if he has posted a denial.

The teen's mother is angry because her little bundle of joy who was 17 and therefore a minor under her tender care when it started has been spending the money totalling around £35,000 on cocaine.

The presenter has been suspended pending the investigation, so all we have to do now is wait and see who doesn't turn up for work. If the allegations are true, in particular the age of the teen when it started, they constitute a criminal offence with up to ten years in jail.
I suspect a criminal charge won't be forthcoming. All the presenter has to do is to say they didn't know the teen was underage. There is nothing illegal about paying money for explicit photos of adults. However charges may occur against the teenager in question because of repeated illegal possession of cocaine, which everyone appears to have forgotten is also an offence.

35k just for some images does that seem an excessive amount? I don't move in such circles or have interests in such things but isn't the internet full of free images that one needs filters to keep them away. So its a presenter on a very high salary that they can spare that much on just images.

Names can't be named because naming names is a worse crime than images or cocaine.

Luvviedom in turmoil again; they seem to be queueing up to say Not me, guv!

No doubt we shall find out eventually who the naughty presenter is; I see whoever it is has allegedly contacted the Young Person twice to try to get them to stop their Mum from making a fuss about this.

Jeremy Vine has repeated calls to the presenter to own up because of the ongoing damage to the BBC's reputation. I'm not sure that I would own up if I was the presenter. Once they do it'll be the end of their career.
I have an idea of who it might be. There are two that have been going around social media but my guess is that it is neither of these.

Looks like I was wrong in who I thought it might be. I would never have seen that one coming.

I didn't see Huw Edwards coming either re this rather messy affair.

The Met hasn't seen, per their statement, any evidence to suggest that criminality has taken place and that if anyone has evidence re criminality, safeguarding of children etc they would expect that evidence to be made available to the appropriate authorities.

I suspect Mr Edwards' career is over. He will be 61 next month so he might as well take early retirement when he leaves hospital.

The original case (paying for pictures) should have been easy to prove because it was known the youngsters birthday and bank records would have existed to check when payments were made. It would be a can of worms though if true becsuse a person has to be over 18 to have online money accounts so other people would be implicated for various other crimes.

It must have been difficult in newsrooms keep talking with guests who all knew the name without actually mentioning anything but they make their own problems just say a simple statement and move on instead of trying to talk without saying anything while you can't legally say anything.
