How unlucky to miss it. Must be wonderful to see a real volcano as long as one is not horribly killed by it of course. I still remember a film in the 70s it was the extra film to a main disney film that I forget which one but remembered the volcano.

The closest I got to a volcanic eruption in Iceland was in 1973 (March, IIRC) when I took a flying trip with 3 other Brits over south Iceland and the Westmann Islands; the Heimaey eruption was easing off but still plenty of steam where the hot lava hit the sea. It was very spectacular.
Like the late Chaircat Midge, I am not always right.
