Why would they need to bother with all the messing about in baloons when there are plenty of fifth columists to take closer looks and all the chips in phones and all the daft people going on tick tocks.

The US government has said it's purpose was surveillance but it's been suggested that satellites are just as good. Which makes me wonder if Chinese space technology isn't as good as people think it is. Why else would they need balloons?
The Chinese government said it was a weather balloon and said sorry. It was just a coincidence that its path accidentally went over a US nuclear weapons base.

I don't think the Chinese need very advanced technology to look up the base on Google Maps and get information about it that way.

And I 've just read on the BBC website that the US has shot the balloon down, so they will be able to see what sort of equipment it was carrying.

China's foreign ministry expressed "strong dissatisfaction and protest against the US's use of force to attack civilian unmanned aircraft". :rolleyes

The balloon was shot down over relatively shallow waters so it won't take long to retrieve the bits and work out what its true purpose was.

They could have dressed it up as a Michelin Man or a teletubby or Mongo from Shrek. Instead they sent it over bold as you like, it might as well have had 'SPY BALLOON FROM CHINA' on the side and they didn't care?

No-one was going to swallow the weather balloon story were they :lol

There's another flying over Latin America, also from China.
The one shot down by the USA apparently had propellors, making it maneuverable.

How weird. One does wonder what they're thinking, here.

Another object has been shot down off Alaska. This one was smaller, cylindrical in shape, and with no apparent means of propulsion.

Imagine, in a space ship off the far side of the moon:
"So it looks like the natives are hostile then?"
"Looks like it Commander Blurg. Pity, we could have helped them with unlimited energy."
"Oh well, how about the Frockles in the Alpha Centauri system? They look a good bet to contact next."
"Very well, Commander, set a course and.... engage."

Another thing over Canada now.

It is quite worrying isnt it. When it was manned ships they were more likely to talk back but with these modern drone things anything could be anywhere couldn't it.

If it is little green men why do space explorers always go to middle of nowhere places. I know NASA did they same on the moon and mars but what's the point of that.
