The Loch Ness monster? I don't really know any of these.

7 What was established in 1852 as the Museum of Manufactures?
Would this be one of the museums that got built out of the proceeds of the Great Exhibition?

3 Charlemagne is buried in which cathedral? Aachen is my guess because his capital was at Aachen.

4 Who is the highest-rated female chess player ever? Judit Polgar from Hungary, one of a trio of chess-playing sisters.

6 The punk musical Lizzie is about which cause célèbre? Lizzie Borden, in Massachusetts IIRC. In the ditty of the time she gave her father 40 whacks with an axe. When she saw what she had done she gave her mother forty-one. It's only fair to mention that she was found not guilty of both crimes.

1. Wystan Hugh Auden
8. Oliver Stone

Nessiteras rhombopteryx was coined by Sir Peter Scott in the 70s. II was a standing joke that Nessiteras rhombopteryx was an anagram of Monster Hoax By Sir Peter S.

:lol Loved the Monster Hoax... thing.

I've always loved that the Great Exhibition, which is the setting for a very important scene in North and South, gave birth to some of the best-known museums in London as it made so much profit.

1 Wystan Hugh Auden.
2 Baseball (originally referred to baseball spectators).
3 Aachen.
4 Judit Polgár.
5 Loch Ness monster (by naturalist Peter Scott).
6 Lizzie Borden (and her alleged murders).
7 Victoria and Albert Museum.
8 Oliver Stone.
