Writer’s Block. In Need of Ideas!

Hi Katie I think you have loads of good ideas. I like Mr Hale returning and counselling Margaret on her shame. Maybe he sends her off to Helston to clear her thinking. He could act as bridge between John and his daughter. That said, if you want an OTT melodramatic romp of a story with plenty of angs...

Writer’s Block. In Need of Ideas!

Hi Kaybell, your fanfic is one of my favourites on ao3. I love the drinking game John and Margaret play whilst in his office. Hilarious but also revealing! So glad you have not forgotten or completely abandoned it! As a way forward how about following: I think John and Fred need to talk when Fred de...

How about art imitating real life?....John could choke on the sixpence, Margaret rushes to help him, administering several good thumps to his back. John recovers, Margaret gets carried away rather enjoying rubbing his back to help sooth him. John enjoys having his back rubbed by Margaret. :D :D :love

Always happy to offer ideas. Love to read your interpretation of them. Lots of surprises all round in this little Christmas tableau! John learns Margaret has a brother and there is no secret other lover. He also has the 'surprise' of experiencing sitting next to Margaret on a small sofa, smelling he...

Hi Merry Just read your intro to Christmas story - a lonely John invited to Christmas's dinner by Richard Hale. Lots of Christmas fluff and nonsense possibilities here! How about Mr Hale tells John about Fred over dinner after saying Grace, remembering family members, season of forgiveness etc. Penn...

Always thought John gave off mixed messages to Margaret in that scene in the mill yard; she is obviously interested in finding out more about the mill. He answers her questions and then he informs her he's busy and appears to abruptly walk off. Maybe if he had lingered a bit longer to talk to Margar...

He sure is handsome...particularly when he comes to tea with the Hales.
I wonder what would have happened if Margaret had behaved a bit more graciously towards John when he came to tea? Maybe she could have shaken his proffered hand? Lent in closely whilst offering him another biscuit??

Chat GPT writing N&S Fanfic

Interesting results....I can't help wondering what the AI would produce if it was asked to write a smutty version of North & South??!

The mind boggles.... 😆

Good N&S fics

Another good smutty fanfic is over on Wattpad - "Midnight in Milton". It is set just after the Thorntons' dinner party, and involves a restless John and Margaret!

Sorry, C19 forum is closed and read only. No links to stories available.

One of my favourite fanfics is called "Margaret Hale's Diary" by Jezebel Lupin over on c19. It is a modern retelling in the style of Bridget Jones' Diary. Very well written, told in the first person; it picks up John and Margaret's characters really well in a modern day work place setting....

It was a real shame John got called away by Slickson (or whoever it was) just after shaking hands with Margaret. I wonder how the conversation might have continued if he had not been led away? Would he have escorted Margaret into the dining room when the gong went?! Maybe pull out Margaret's her cha...

North and South Chat

Reading well written fanfiction has opened up the characters of John and Margaret for me, revealing new believable layers to their personalities, and giving greater insight into their motivations and drivers, something which the book and TV series only hint at. As a grateful reader, thank you writer...

Happy New Year Millers! I am hoping the flurry of North & South fanfiction continues in 2023. It has brought me so much pleasure to read, a much needed distraction from what's been going on in my private life. I am very excited that Tom is going to write the Lady Chatterley's Lover mash up with ...

I like how the 'small touch' idea is developing...what if Margaret starting brushing fingers with John, or maybe offering him an unexpected handshake, would that encourage John to be less angry/ resentful towards her?? (Me thinks yes!!) Maybe he wouldn't let go of her hand?? Maybe Margaret wouldn't ...

I think the 'small touches' could be a separate fanfic one shot in its own right. Margaret in her loneliness ends up craving John's touch. How she might contrive subconsciously situations where she might touch him, maybe making sure she us thee to serve him tea.... So glad there is some enthusiasm f...
