Here they are again, celebrating 15 years of playing together as a trio. If you like them you will like this video - quite a lot of it isn't Alpine style music, but you do hear some of their traditional tunes as well.

UK General Election 4 July
Dad spent the majority of his working line in the Army; joined up in 1939 when he was 20 because he thought it would take at least 4 years to beat Germany and he thought you got a higher rate of pay if you didn't wait to be called up. Left the Army around 1946 or 1947, rejoined in 1949 or 1950, reti...

Eccs and Daisy have bagged the qs to which I know the answers and some more as well. At least I can confirm for Eccs that his answer about the Japanese cities is correct and, just for completeness, here they are with their islands. Tokyo - Honshu Sapporo - Hokkaido Fukuoka - Kyushu Matsuyama - Shikoku

I think 30-odd years ago that was known as trying to be prolier-than-thou but it got silly when obvious toffs like Douglas Hurd tried it on.

UK General Election 4 July
I wondered if it might be a good idea for us to have a single thread about the General Election so that those who might be not all that bothered by it won't trip up over our thoughts about it in other threads. I note that there will be no flights to Rwanda before the general election, so that's one ...

Should have waited a bit longer! The rain stopped and then returned but by then they decided Dishy Rishi would have to make his announcement anyway - in the pouring rain. So his grey suit looked shinier and shinier as pools of wetness appeared on it and by the end it looked as if lots of water was r...

I think that is a very good idea, WR - it would certainly make things less complicated. If you had a flat rate for the rate of tax as well with no higher rate and the same basic tax allowance for everybody that would make things even less complicated. No other allowances. No moving money to offshore...

I think it's fair to note that, apart from the US Administration spokesman offering condolences (to whom? The BBC doesn't say) over the death of Raisi, the US State Department called him a "brutal participant in the oppression of the Iranian people" who had "blood on his hands" (...

Great Malvern - Picnic in the Park
I recall back in 2013 Merry's post then about a visit to the park in Malvern inspired similar outrage from WR about the QinetiQ scandal, which in turn provoked a small outburst from the Chaircat in what turned out to be her very last post on the Board.

What a lovely day you had, WR! It reminds me of Mum - she liked watching horse racing on the TV though she never placed a bet. With one big race she guessed which horses would come in the top three, and when I asked her why she replied she had chosen those because they looked interested in what was ...

Yesterday I received a letter from DVLA acknowledging that I had surrendered my driving licence, which I did before I went on my cruise; slow grind the wheels of officialdom, especially at DVLA where they seem to have industrial action more or less all the time somewhere within their empire. It also...

Here´s a clip from the Central Switzerland Yodel Festival of 2018. The festival moves around Canton Luzern from year to year and in 2018 it was held in a small town called Schötz in the north west of the canton, not far from the border with Canton Aargau.

:lol It reminds me of a jest about a fatal accident at a colliery in South Wales. The chaps are debating who should take the sad news to the deceased miner's family, and they nominate Dai who they think is very sensitive to other people's feelings. So off goes Dai, knocks on the door of the deceased...
