Diana! how lovely to hear from you! It's just so exciting to hear about new writers suddenly being inspired to write... more lovely N&S fics for all of us! I look forward to reading your story! “Must be off to shift, or I’ll be in trouble wi’ foreman.” I LOVE it when people write in accents! I ...

Wait, wait, wait...what do you mean about pronouncing the g on -ing words. Is that a thing? Who does that? Are there people who do that all the time, in general? The first time I noticed this was through a life coach I follow who lives in Virginia, USA (so not sure if others down there do that). Th...

Another snippet of LOTR meets N&S for your enjoyment. * There is still white fluff caught in Víli's braids. His hair is braided in tight and close to his head, beard kept short. Dís wonders at this city and its strange habits, wonders if she can ever fit in here. She is a princess under the moun...

My dad said he'll put my rent up if I put the heating on outside the scheduled times ;D We need to sweep the chimney, it's not drawing right so the log burner isn't belting out the heat it should. Positivity! One of the local old gentlemen donated his winter fuel allowance to the primary school I wo...

The Storm Keeper's Island is one of the texts that came up as recommended for the 10 year olds I work with and I'm not gonna lie they're some of the best books I've read in the last year, absolutely excellent. Definitely worth a look if you like a bit of fantasy, Ireland, myths, and lighthouses

For how extremely rarely I get the watercolours out, and painting landscapes even more rarely, I think I did a good job of painting the fence in Buttermere. Not bad at all, although I might do again, explore the techniques and try to use more patience for the layering of the colours to get the smoot...

I hadn't thought of doing drabble for these guys! Maybe I will for a prompt series or something. What I love about dribbles is the sheer variety of things you can do with 100 words. You can tell a full chapter sometimes, but others you barely get through one shared smile and the feel of their love. ...

Grace, Oh, I writer after my own heart! :love I love it! Do it! Go for it! I say. I have a N&S/Hobbit crossover I am working on, but yours looks much better than mine. Yours has more depth and flow. I think my writing is too matter-of-fact. Your snippet is beautifully written. Please do continu...

Can I interest anyone in a hobbit North and South story? Thorin and his sister need somewhere to live and he needs work, because a prince without a mountain and a people is really just some dude. He takes work with a smithy and, being small, is good at repairing the looms. As years pass he takes on ...

I agree with you about the amazing light Grace. I was born in Whitehaven and my mother's family were originally from St Bees - my grandma was a pub landlady there. I hadn't been back for several years but was there last year and walking down the beach I'd forgotten how pretty it is there (although ...

Regarding the little palomino pony - she only has one eye! She got uveitis, a nasty eye infection, and had to have it removed. She's very happy now when it isn't muddy underfoot and is due a foal sometime in early summer. As for being posh.... well.... I wouldn't go that far 😂 peasant for life, me, ...

I'm so taken with the line Us Northerners you scorn so much, we’re bred to fight; an' win. that I'm going to make a valiant attempt to watercolour a photo of Buttermere I took, and then put this quote over the top. We are bred to fight, not each other, but the very elements. Not so much nowad...

My dad is from Burnley, a mill town, and mam is local to where we now live. This is the view out over the Solway. The second photo was taken by a local when I was out riding and put on Facebook, and shows not just one of my ponies but the beauty of the light we get out here on the Northwest coast.

Now then, this may have come up in your fun research before, but these two real historical events make up the strike in North and South: The strike over wages in 1854, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preston_strike_of_1853%E2%80%931854 And the strike and riots in 1842 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki...
