STPD took these photographs out and about in London from Autumn to December and I love them.

Sorry for anyone with a slow connection as there are quite a few - I had to cut some of my favourites out as it was.

On the Streets

This may be Camden Town.. STPD will have to put me right if not.

Cafe culture...

Shop window - she took this one for me, she says  :lol

London Eye, love the random lone figure in the foreground

Great pictures and they make me miss London. It will always have something special about it. Not just the tourist attractions but the out of the way places and little shops.  :thumbs

It's been a while for me. They hadn't built the London Eye back then

I first went to London in the early 80s and the cafe culture was something different back then. I had never seen such a thing, it is more common now of course. Eveywhere wants to copy London and some places even have a Big Wheel.

I always imagained London to be crowded all the time but
it is quite deserted in some of the pictures. Did STPD wander round at dawn before people got up.

I think when I used to visit London in the week it wasn't too crowded as most of the people were in their offices.  The rush hour though (which used to last a lot longer than an hour even then) was a nightmare.

As for the trains I'd rather go to the dentist than on the underground at peak times.

Trains packed like illegal cattle trucks is something that other cities also aspire to and have succeeded in copying. But at least there is not the added nightmare of being underground except in tunnnels.
She seems rather fond of the old Shell-Mex building, which houses mainly Pearson companies and belongs now to a property fund.   It is in 2 of STPD's piccies and it has a nice clock.
Well spotted for the Shell building! :thumbs And thanks for the post and comments -I've enjoyed reading and seeing :)

I love London, still - but mostly when it is slightly emptier on weekday afternoons, or other odd times when I seem to be in a peculiar place at the "wrong" time - for example the City on a Sunday - you feel like you have it to yourself. (And unspoilt by all those pesky people!) ;)

I hate trawling through the central or touristy bits especially when you're just trying to go about your everyday business as quickly as possible...I usually try and sail through these parts on the top of a bus, ok well - crawl through might be more apt - but I still get a smug sense of relief from beign able to look down on all those pedestrians fighting their way across Oxford Street  :D

The "cafe" scene is Belsize Park - just slightly north of Camden - it's the "celeb" hot-spot where Gwyneth Paltrow and the like live... NOT that I was there hoping to catch a glimpse (in fact I've probably walked past them without noticing!)  It is just round the corner from my less than des-res bedsit - and I have to avoid the whole area at weekends as I know it is guaranteed to make me irate, being over-run by yummy mummies with more money than manners or any kind of social decency...and I break out into an embittered rage!  :mad

So I try to stick to the shabby bits... though that can be a bit depressing sometimes. On Finchley Road there used to be a very useful and quite large Woolies, which stood sad and bleakly empty for years until it was bought by a cheap-ish clothing retailers about 6 months ago. I was pleased to see it trading again - and NOT as yet another Tiny Tesco! - and it made a good addition to the proliferation of charity shops and other small cafes that keep opening up and then closing again a few months down the line  :( But guess who the clothing firm is? - Yes, Peacocks  :(  :(

Finchley Central is two and sixpence
From Golders Green on the Northern Line
And on the platform, by the kiosk
That's where you said you'd be mine

There we made a date
For hours I waited
But I'm blowed, you never showed

At Finchley Central, ten long stations
From Golders Green, change at Camden Town
I thought I'd made you, but I'm afraid you
Really let me down.
