Here's a dragon's damsel for our good buddy eccles. This is an Ebony Jewel Wing, Calopteryx maculata, a damselfly.
And a day old fawn snuggled for a nap in our orchard, for everyone to go "awww".
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!   :hug

It must be like paradise, to live somewhere where there tend to be baby fawns nestled in the grass !

Nice pic of the Ebony Jewel Wing and definitely awww for the fawn.  :thumbs
Beats a fox curling up in Our Back Yard any day of the week.
Nice pics Asy. Your damselfly is very like our 'beautiful demoiselle' (calopteryx virgo). They are true damselflies but have some of the characteristics of dragonflies, namely much more vigorous flight and an ability to catch prey on the wing. As a result they, along with banded demoiselle (calopteryx splendens), are awarded the special common taxonomy of 'demoiselle' in Europe and the UK. I suppose the French put our entomologists up to it.  :ohwell

Incidently, a recent wildlife series narrated by David Attenborough, "Earth" had a short about a European species of demoiselle. David stated that the insect had emerged that morning and had a day to mate and die. Erm, wrong; he's confusing them with mayflies I expect. Even the smallest of damselflies have several days, maybe a week, to hunt prey, build up their strength, and mature before going back to the water.
