Every winter for the last few years I have managed to befriend a robin or two in the local wildlife park, simply by dropping a few assorted seeds in the same spot several times a week. There were three this year, one who is looking rather embattled with loss of feathers around one of his eyes, and is probably relying too much on handouts, another who is a little shy, perhaps a foreign migrant, and this one, my favourite.
This guy, when he condescends to grace me with his presence, is so bold that I have to be careful not to clout him when I drop the seeds on their usual spots on the fence posts and wall.
The foreign visitor will soon be on his way back to Europe; maybe he's already gone, but the other two will now have to make their own way as spring buds mean insects will now support them. Their young need the extra protein that live food can bring, so the seeds will now stop. Which means the robins will become less bold.
Until next winter that is.
Snapped today. I hope he does well this summer and fathers lots of healthy chicks. :)

Crikey Eccs - I thought you were going then - leaving HF! my heart started to pound!  merry fans herself and sniffs a fisherman's friend, in lieu of smelling salts

How glad I am to see it is just our little feathered traveller friend  :D

:lol  Jay and I were building a snowman earlier this year and a poor hungry robin kept hopping so close I feared he would get a large spadeful of snow right in the beak.   We scattered a trail of crumbs for him but I never saw him eat them.  I think he was hoping we'd turn up worms.

Lovely picture Eccles  :thumbs   I forgive you for the fright   :lol

Such lovely creatures, your robins, and so different from ours.

Thingummie Major has a picture of a hairy woodpecker, but I hesitate to post it, when I compare it to the detail and artistry of your posts.

It is lovely isn't it and great that they are so friendly.  :thumbs

Asy, post it anyway. I've no idea what a hairy woodpecker looks like. :) No one gets pictures as good as eccles anyway. They are something else aren't they.

Even the robins have to deal with economic migrants do they poor things.

Anyway it is nice to hear of the robins progress and that they don't die once Xmas is over.
