Oooh thank you Chrissie :hug for all that info, will read, digest and pass on!  Thank Jamie too!   :rofl  at 'printers will be the death of me' - I know how he feels!  If we run into probs I will pester my godson for an answer    :D
The Crapple has arrived.  :D  It is very beautiful, but we got off on the wrong foot as the first 30 minutes was spent 'learning' how to use Voice Over, which was a grating mechanical American voice lecturing me on some obscure but essential (apparently) commands that all began 'Just press ctrl-Fn-shift + XYZ and.... '  I began to think 'ease of use' was a myth put about by Applys who don't see why they should suffer alone!

After that the same loud grating voice helpfully yelled out the name of every key I pressed - the faster I typed the louder and quicker it yelled.  I had to call Pani to get him to Google 'turn off VO' and if that hadn't worked the next search was going to be 'how to kill a Mac very slowly with maximum possible suffering'.

Once we got past that little hump, all went swimmingly.  It is fast, very nice to use, sidled onto the network without me even noticing and was soon flirtily hatting up the other PCs.   It is built as luxuriously as a Rolls Royce, DVDs vanish inside it invisibly (no rickety drawer) the power cord attaches magnetically in a very superior way, attaching the new Bluetooth Mouse was as easy as blinking - 'I sense a Mighty Mouse close by!  Would you like me to attach it?'   'Why, yes please!'

'What picture would you like to attach to your profile?' it cooed. 'Would you like - this one?'  Sound of webcam shutter falling, and all of a sudden there I am, staring manically out from the Crapple screen in far too many DPI.  (The pic went straight in the Trash Can as fast as my Mighty Mouse finger could click.)

All in all it's very beautiful and seems delightful.  Lucky Jay!
