Three hard drive failures in three days.(and have had 2 others in recent months) All seagate, ranging from 3 years old to eight months.
Two different computers so not caused by PSU problems (unless both of those). Errors detected from manufacturer and third party checking software outside Windows so not software.
This isn't even the rant. I need to take a run at at that so I will rant properly when I get time and when I'm sure at least one of the PCs will stay up long enough to write a long post.
Am in a good mood really , but feel I'm entitled not to be as they should be (and were) much more reliable that this. Planned obsolescence or did they downsize and make all the technical staff redundent while keeping the marketing people?

Every sympathy - HD problems here too! In two pcs. The horrible happenings have been so frequent they have all blurred together in my head but just wanted you to know you have a fellow sufferer.
Oh - I forgot - you do know - because it was you who got the job of fixing them from afar
Footnote: I am now firmly convinced there is no such thing as Karma - Pani spent ages helping me fix my drives last week - including giving me one of his own and treating me to another - for which his reward was his own going into meltdown in a particularly tricky and unfixable way. On two pcs. I don't think the Karma god has got it right Perhaps I was very bad in a former life. If so I hope I made the most of it There is definately bad magnetic energy at the moment we now have Merrys drive Panis drives ( x 3 ) Furbys power supply Furbys works thingy and now Furbys freeview set top box the day before she needs it "for real" and a month after it is out of guarantee. And anyone who hasn't owned up to bad luck yet, we know you are out there.
Do you think we will get to be lucky lucky lucky in the next life instead.Take the freeview box back to the shop where you bought it and claim that it is not fit for purpose and that you are entitled to a replacement or refund under the sale of goods act. You'll probably be flogging a dead horse for something that probably only cost about £20-30 but it'll make you feel better, especially if it is done on a Saturday when the shop is full of people. One of my drives is now fine (apparently) after using the Low Level Format Tool from HDDGuru.
I am getting suspicious of Seagate Tools which seems to claim a drive is ok when it's clearly failing and then completely fails to fix anything.
Low Level Format Tool has cured two drives recently. Also HDDscan from the same site gives you better information on the state of the drive than many others.
