Putting this up partly in case other people google for it and partly to rant
Yesterday I found myself unable to send txt messages via my sagem phone. Now I've only recently learned how to so this was annoying. It kept saying 'Sending Stopped'.
I went through the Orange Troubleshooter and got nowhere. One of the things it gets you to check is that the msg center number is correct.
It was set (correctly according to Orange) to 4478973100973.
In fact it would seem that will only work from outside the UK. They txted me recently (and presumably lots of other people) to say that I now had access to call from abroad (ROAMING). I can only assume they also changed it to that number.
The right number (replacing the 44 with a 0) is this.
078973100973

Well that will teach you to not be a globe trotting roaming bright young thing won't it.
I bet the default person would be glad of having their phone set in that way.
At least it's working now though of merry hadn't got me looking in the right place I was going to have to buy a phone that was set correctly.
In the meantime my newest hard drive (2 weeks old) has already developed a fault. My broadband is disconnecting a lot along with strange noises on the phone line so I'm trying to narrow down which bit is broken there.
Aside from that I'm having a peaceful day.
Oh well it seems likely that the new hard drive is not faulty after all. One of Windows quirks is that you can't always tell which drive it's refering to. You can look at the drives in half a dozen places and some will put them in one order and some another.
So it appears it was the older drive (seagate
) that went wrong. I seem to have fixed that, but will see how it goes. I don't mind so much if the seagate goes since I'd already concluded that Seagate stopped making real drives some years back and are now like those people selling rolex watches in the marketplace.
