the most hauntingly beautiful image is of the swans, paired for life
Thanks to the kind Reader who spoke those words (and to all those who said such very nice things about a story I am fond of myself.) The forever-swans is a lovely image - I take no credit for it myself - Doyle - or was it Bodie? is merely quoting something he has read and half-remembered in some poem or other - but it is so lovely an idea isn't it? and as I've posted here before I once painstakingly sewed an embroidered square for a celebration Pros quilt, I designed it without a template and my two swans sailed on water side by side - one with jade eyes, one sapphire. I am no designer and not much of a needlewoman really, but the square came out beautiful - touched by Doyle-magic, or Zax-magic, maybe!
Thank you Hags - that was such a heartwarming page to read. Sebastian often comes up often in Pros discussions -- big surprise (not!). I remember how enthralled I was when I reached your stories on the Circuit Archive.
Do tell more about the quilt! Is there any chance of photos? The quilt was a joint effort whereby writers of Pros slash were invited to produce one square each, which were assembled by someone in one place, and then the finished article was raffled. I did see a book (con programme perhaps?) with photographs of each square, the contrbutor's title for the square - mine being of course "Swans mate for life" and the finished quilt. I have no idea now who instigated the great sew-in, nor who ended up with the quilt and where it is now!
I don't suppose it would have stood up to many washings My stitching is not known for its staying-power.Oh, I'd have loved to see photos of that!
And yes, there is always plenty of Merriness about on lj and thereabouts! Is that OUR Helio who gets a mention on there? um, yes akshuly. They're running out of really good authors to talk about, you see - 'cos they've talked about youse all already! But I was so kerfuffled at even being mentioned on the same page (you think I'm kidding? I'm not!) that I didn't say anything, and then the time sort of got away from me (you know how that happens, then you feel you've got to make up for it by commenting something really insightful, and then ... you can't think of anything insightful that other people haven't already said ... and the longer you let it go the worse that is!). But frankly even if they forget about it I feel honoured to have even had a story considered - and on top of that, by a nice coincidence it's the nearest Reading Room to my birthday!
