Clyde has been Free for nearly two months now and we don't see so much of him now he is a Wild Pony and roams the Cotswold Hills, him and his friend Boyo.

But when Jay climbed to the very skyline today to see him, he had not forgotten her and whickered a hello:

Do I know ya?

He consented to be caught and brought down and given a brush and a check-over, though he had almost forgotten what a headcollar is for and gave Jay a very strange look and stood stock-still until she gav it a tug.

It's wonderful how quickly he's adapted to being free.  I bet he has almost forgotten the drudgery of his life in working livery and so many hours spent in a dark stable, day and night.

After a carrot or two (he had not forgotten what to do with a carrot) she turned him loose again.  He hadn't hated being back in the world again, but he did not try to stay.

King of his land

Free to go wherever he wants.

Apologies for picture quality.  Either the sun - or Jay's tears - dazzled the lens.

That will be the bright unseasonal sun that affected the pictures... though the tears of a DP make for a more romantic story :D

I am glad to see Clyde enjoying retirement and also glad to hear that he hasn't yet forgotten you both (yet... wait till he finds a girlfriend!)

:love
:grouphug  Thanks both.  Not sure about the girlfriend, he has always beena  bit of a ladies man, but unless he leaps the Cotswold stone wall into the 'Girls' Field'..  he is stuck with Boyo and a bit of a BrokeBack Mountain lifestyle  :lol

I'm sure I'm biased... and all horses are special in their way...  but he really is a very loveable, trusty, hard-working, dependable, full-of-character sort of chap - the sort of horse who worked with you rather than for you - and really did deserve some happy free-pony years after a lifetime of doing his duty like a trooper.

Sniffle.

Clyde looking quite well, Creature says he can imagine Jay coming over all weepy.
Oh, she cries constantly about Clyde - either happiness or misery!  :lol

Clyde looking quite well

Fat!  and shiny.  Obviously managing to get a living off the grass.  For the first few days he arrived down at the gate expecting his breakfast pail, but he's stopped doing that now :D

When the grass thins, apparently a haybale or two is tipped daily into each field so Clyde and Boyo will be fighting it out.  My money's on Clyde who is pretty handy with his cloppers when there's nosh up for grabs.

He looks to be thriving. How was his cough this visit? Does the change in quarters appear to have had a beneficial effect, as hoped?
I haven't heard him cough in a while thank goodness (it is distressing to see him struggle to catch his breath) but Jay said he had a couple of coughs - after trotting up to the top of the hill - a hill so high and steep she has to stop and get her breath several times on the way up - and he has been seen cantering over the dales Playing - so I am hoping against hope all that clean fresh air blasting through his lungs is giving them a good clear out, reducing any allergic inflammation, etc.

:thumbs

Clyde the rough wild rapscallion of the hilltop, finally tracked down yesterday:

A far cry from Clyde the champion showjumper:

Any regrets?

Says it all doesn't it  :)

He's certainly got a biger backside now. :)
