If there is I may need to leave the board.

This is because it has been brought to my attention that at least 3 members are the same star sign as my sister.

(I don't get along with my sister, long story. )

Well astrology can be amusing - to see how far wrong it is if nothing else, but I don't believe a word of it and nor do most people I think. There is no real scientific basis for it.

I am glad you asked though so sit back, relax and be lectured. This could take a while :)

There has been suggestions that the time of the year you were born may affect you a little. There are reasons why this may be so.

The season you were born into might mean formative months spent in a cot under a pile of covers rather then crawling around the garden learning things. I guess that means you want to be born at the start of winter so that by the time you can crawl and take notice you get the chance to do so.

Oh and in the real old days when food was scarce in winter you might not get the same nourishment.

Also the way school years used to work (not sure they do now) if you were in a certain age group you missed the cut off point for starting and didn't go until quite a few months later. This meant you had more time at home first and then found yourself amongst the more mature kids in the class. A small difference, but it might mean you were more capable of learning and also less likely to be bullied since you were bigger then average.

These are real effects, but hardly enough to change what you are going to do on april 15th, 40 years later :)

Also by the nature of gravity I suppose every object in the universe exerts some affect on you. The moon pulls you one way and the stars another. It's so small though as to be insignificant and again, how would that help select your favorite color?

These reasons don't take into account that we all live in different countries with different seasons and that the stars overhead are not entirely the same stars anyway. Astrology must have been invented by people who didn't get out much and they didn't go on holidays abroad. When we colonise other planets what will they do then?

Oh and I gather that with calender changes the cut off points for the signs got moved around so if there had been any sense to it then it would be lost now anyway.

Oh and astrology - at least the kind that says you will meet a tall dark stranger on monday - means you have no free will. I treasure mine. The right and ability to make my own decisions (even if they are all the wrong ones) :)

Just to be on the safe side though, let's track down all the people with that sign and put them out of our misery.
:rofl  :rofl  :rofl

Yep. The first point of Aries is now in Pisces due to precession of the earth's axis.

Is there anything in this astrology lark?

Not much. Pani's points are well taken. Also Eccles'. Mostly it's like the Tarot or any other "fortune telling" medium. No one can predict the future--beyond simple common sense (sadly lacking all too often). Step in front of an onrushing vehicle and you can make a pretty good guess at the consequences.

Some predictions can be made safely. 'You will cross the water.' Sure you will--even if it's only a puddle in your driveway. My favorite is always 'you will meet a tall dark man.' Perfectly safe. Sooner or later--probably sooner--you will meet a tall dark man. Just remember to notice as you're walking down the street.

Sun sign alone means little, btw. You have to check sun, moon, all the planets, the relationships amongst all of these and between any two, the location, etc. etc. And everything changes from day to day; the long and complicated chart someone did for you yesterday is all different today and you need a new one.

I've heard it said that the characteristics ascribed to people born at particular times are the result of centuries, even millenia, of observation; that over many many years and many many people certain characteristics proved to be more common than others. And Carl Jung checked patients' astrological signs, saying that they gave him a place to start until he had other information to work from.

Like so many things, I think astrology can provide useful metaphors.

HOWEVER-- Check any assortment of books by 'experts'. They have large areas of disagreement, not least the question of which is the crucial time, birth or conception? Then there's the little matter of which system of astrology you want to apply. Western? Chinese? Indian? Mayan? Etc.?

When I was working for the Air Force in Japan many years ago, I used to tell fortunes with an ordinary pack of cards. If things got dull around the service club, I could always gather an interested group around that activity. My caveat was always, "If you don't like the first one, we'll do another. And another. Until we get one you like." It worked just fine and nobody took it too seriously. (If it was a party, I'd paint my fingernails green and wear purple lipstick. That sort of thing adds verisimilitude.)

Did you get to meet many tall dark strangers whilst wearing green fingernails and purple lipstick?
I was twenty-something, an American woman on an overseas military base.  Meeting tall dark strangers, or any other kind for that matter, was never a problem.
:) I'll bet you knocked them dead..
Teb.. Is there ANYTHING you havent done??

Lots.  But I keep adding things.

My horrorscope for today says that some visitors from far away will turn up.

They haven't turned up yet.
