About time!

I saw a picture of an affected seabird.  It was distressing.  :(

It is truly awful. But if it had to happen (which it didn't, of course, but ...) then it's probably a good thing it happened to the USA. Not out of schadenfreude, but because we are all parochial human beings and maybe only something like this might nudge the most powerful and influential country in the world towards considering more environmentally sustainable policies ..... maybe. ??????????????
And it's not just the pollution aspect as he has noticed.

"Beyond the risks inherent in drilling four miles beneath the surface of the Earth, our dependence on oil means that we will continue to send billions of dollars of our hard-earned wealth to other countries every month - including many in dangerous and unstable regions,"

Being independent of foreign sources in those 'unstable regions' would be a good thing in itself.
