For why, you might all ask.   You does have a doting Creature to administer to your every need, you eat the very finest of Cat Food (Hill's Science Plan, the eighth Wonder of the World), your Sister Claire not bossy, reasonably quiet neighbours wot get off the Wall when you tell them to - wot more could you want?

It wot Creature been getting up to, that wot it is.

He has been looking at estate agent sites in Iceland!   Ones like this!  http://www.es.is/  And he has been looking at details of houses like this one! http://www.es.is/Eignavakt/?path=/resources/Pages/1.ascx&ExternNumber=209-2545

And he has been saying to me 'Would you like to be an Icelandic cat, Midge?'

I talked about this with my Sister Claire, because it got me worried.   Is he going to live in Iceland?   Will he leave Us Cats behind?!?!

WILL I STILL GET MY HILLS UNDER ANY NEW ARRANGEMENT?!

And Claire said to me You do not need to get all excited, Midge.   He planning for when he do stop Work, that is a few years off yet.

Well, that news to me, I thought he would just carry on going off in his metal Basket wot go by itself every day, and bring us Hills every so often, and be our Cushion in the evening after he do eat his Dinner.   Though I have wondered if a day would come when he can be our Cushion all day.   So I asked Claire if he would still bring us Hills when he do stop work.

And Claire said, Of course he will!   He will have something called a Pension, which lets him buy things for himself and, more importantly, for Us Cats.

So I said to Claire, Then why does he keep on looking at these Pictures of houses in Iceland?   I find that most alarming!

And Claire said, He might want to live there when he stops Work, and so he checks up to see what he can afford.   But you do not need to worry, he will not stop Work for a few years.

But I replied, well I is not so sure about that.   If he is not going to stop Work for a few years, why was he looking at the website of the Reykjavik Heat and Power Company, Orkuveita Reykjavíkur?   Why was he looking at their price calculation model here? http://www.or.is/Forsida/ABOUTREYKJAVIKENERGY/CustomerInformation/

And Claire said, You know how he likes to plan ahead.   He was just seeing how much it might cost for heat and light and hot water, they are on District Heating systems over there, where you buy the whole lot from the power company.   Anyway, you don't have to worry about that, because there are a couple of definitions that he doesn't understand and which could be quite costly, so he will be asking about that when he goes over there with Our Gran next year.

I must admit I do not have a clue wot Claire do mean by District Heating, I think she has been listening to Creature muttering to himself and repeating wot he do say without really understanding it.   Anyway, I was not to be put off, I did say to her, Then if it all a long way off so that we does not need to worry, why he been going to this site http://www.rsk.is/show_page.asp?url=/international/default.asp&val=0.0&lang=en it all about paying taxes in Iceland!

And Claire actually laughed at me!   She said, Well he wants to know how much tax he might pay over there.

And then she said, Listen, Sister Midge!   He has worked out he pays less tax if he lives in Iceland.   He pays tax in England on his Work Pension and gets the allowances for that here, and in Iceland he pays tax on his State Pension there - or would do if his State Pension tax was bigger than the tax credit there - and he can set part of the surplus Credit against his UK investment income which will be taxed in Iceland under the Double Taxation Treaty!

Well, my little Brain was reeling by then, it all very complicated.   So I said to Claire, Is that true?   Has he got it right?

And Claire said, He will find out when he goes there with Our Gran next year.   He is going to have a chat with some Tax Accountants who understand the Double Taxation Treaty.

I do not know how much of this Claire really understands, but it all sounds very scary to Me.   Even if it is a few years off, I am not sure how long a year is, I just live from day to day.   Wot if I am too old to travel to Iceland?

In the meantime, I must practice Icelandic.   Werghsson werghsson werghsson.

I wonder if Creature will be able to get us our Hills in Iceland?

Wergh

You know how he likes to plan ahead

I think Creature is very sensible and clever to plan ahead and if more people planned ahead before upping sticks and moving it would be a nicer world.

I don't understand about the double taxation treaty but it does sound a good idea to pay less tax.

It's probably something that Gordon hasn't worked out how to circumvent yet.
Even if it's a way off yet it must be fun to be planning it and working out where you'll live etc.  :thumbs

I hope you found out about how to get broadband laid on quickly

Will Creature still be able to go now with all the hoo har about Iceland and its banks and bankrupts.

Or would it be even better for him as he would be welcomed there as a "rich" foreigner.

If Creature had the cash right now he could buy properties wot are somewhat bigger than the ones he originally had in mind.

Or he could buy the same size property as he intended and it not cost anything like as much.

This 4 bedroom bungalow wot being built would cost £130,000.

This 4 bedroom bungalow wot went up in 1960 is slightly more expensive at £131,000.

Or maybe this one, a snip at £160,000.

Whether it be like that in 2016 when his State Pension kicks in is anybody's guess.   He already decided that the earliest he could move because of higher cost of living there overall, but it worth it to get away from wot is becoming a surveillance nanny state over here.

The Icelanders would not treat him badly as a horrid foreigner, or fawn over him as a rich foreigner - they would just treat him kindly as they have always done because he is Mike Smith and brings out their protective instincts.

Wergh.

I loved House 2 and House 3, and I'm sure House 1 will be very nice too when finished.

The Icelanders would not treat him badly as a horrid foreigner, or fawn over him as a rich foreigner - they would just treat him kindly as they have always done because he is Mike Smith and brings out their protective instincts.

That's a very lovely paragraph  :kissy

Of course some of us over here would miss Creature if he moved, but I can understand why he would want to.
