Yes!  Last Saturday was Our Gran's birthday, and we did arrange for Creature to take a Card round from Us Cats to her - Creature had to write it for us as this a Skill wot we does lack and she was very pleased to receive it.

Creature had arranged to collect some Wine on the morning of her Birthday, he did take her to the Wine Shop at Theale wot is near Reading to collect the 24 Half Bottles wot he had bought, plus the case of Premium Czech Light Beer (half price), 20 half litre bottles wot are ideal for drinking with Curry or Chilli Con Carne according to Creature.

While they were there, they bought another 12 bottles of Wine, so Creature got a second case of cheap(ish) Light Beer wot they will take to Toddington as Comestibles for Mr Merry when they does visit later this month.   They has also got something nice for Merry, and have yet to get the Thorntons - it would not be a Proper Visit without the Thorntons.

Anyway, back to Gran's Birthday.   It quite a nice drive to the Wine Shop.   They does go up the A34 but come off it before Newbury and drive through the Country Lanes via Kingsclere and past Aldermaston AWRE, it not take long.   So they stopped at Gran's House on the way back to unload the Drink and then on to Keats.

Here something happened wot not happened for Ages.   Creature was a bit greedy, he had garlic bread as well as his Paglia e Fieno (green and white thin noodles with a creamy mushroom sauce) while Gran had seafood soup.   This a great pity, because they had ordered a ChateauBriand for main course - a big piece of most tender Beef with lots of vegetables and Chips.   The meat was huge and Our Gran could not finish her share - and Creature could not finish it for her!   Rarely has this happened in the past............Creature blamed the garlic bread but really 3 SUBLs could have shared that ChateauBriand.   Anyway they put Gran's leftover meat in a foil carrier for her to take away and make a nice sandwich later.

This did not stop them from having a dessert.   Creature had Ice Cream, very nice, and Our Gran had - Creature can't remember but it had Italian Shortbread with it.   And then Coffee.

And then Creature took Gran home.   She said she had a lovely day.  :D

Here Gran's House, where we do visit sometimes though we is not allowed Outside here.   It an old faded pic, but you get the idea.

It sounds like a very nice day (and very tasty!) - glad Your Gran enjoyed it (and that it was a sensible restaurant that packs up one's little-something-for-later, as I hate the thought of delicious dishes going to waste). :)
Happy Birthday to the grand lady, and many happy returns of the day.

It sounds a scrumptious outing.

And what a dandy house!

Asy, the house is wot we does call semi-detached.   So Our Gran has the left-hand half of it.   You can just see the car wot Creature had in those days parked outside the back door, it nearly 30 years ago, wergh.

Since then, the next door house has had a Loft Conversion so it do have a skylight in the roof, and an extended Kitchen at the back.   The last owners made it all very nice inside, and managed to sell it last August for £325,000 - just caught the top of the market tho Creature do think the new people paid a little over the top for it.   Especially as a 3 bedroom detached house just down the road went for £280,000 3 months ago.

Well despite the roller coaster ride on real estate, that house looks like it will steadily increase in value for the long haul. Looks like a lovely "keeper" alright, and I doubt the neighbors will have trouble, unless they are pressed by an emergency into a hasty sale. It's my impression that sort of thing happens far more often stateside than in the UK, because our population has such a constantly shifting job market across several thousand miles of continent.

Glad your folks had such a pleasant day.

[Did MidgeKitty get to sample a smidgeon of the lovely leftovers?]

Did MidgeKitty get to sample a smidgeon of the lovely leftovers?

No - Our Gran had half with salad one day, and the rest with vegetables another day.

I like half bottles of wine and get them from morrisons now I live near shops.  :)

They are dearer per thimble full of wine but otherwise you have to drink up the whole bottle yourself once it is open which is not good.

And it is a well known fact amongst people who know well known facts that however full you are you can always eat some icecream.

I am glad Creature and OurGran had a nice birthday out.
