Back from San Diego with a ridiculous number of photos. I shall divide just a select fraction of them into two posts, the first being Extremely Damp, and the second being Extremely Dusty, otherwise known as the Pacific Ocean and Anza Borrego Desert.

Post the First:

Thingummie Minor at Pacific Beach. Blinding sunlight, stilllife with kelp.

We went for a day cruise, whale watching, on Dennis Connors' "America" yacht. Or rather, an exact working replica of his yacht. We helped raise the sails, but otherwise served as cheerful ballast.
Sails are up and the galley slaves are released from duty. Asy in foreground demonstrating sea legs.
We saw plenty of wildlife, almost none of which appeared in our photos. Here we sailed through a large pod of white sided dolphins, dozens who were leaping clear of the water chasing fishies, narrowly escaping surprise landings on our deck. Use your imagination, do.
Focused in on a pod of four gray whales, whom we discretely followed for about forty minutes. They'd wintered in warm Mexico waters and are now again migrating northward toward Alaska. About every 5 to 7 minutes they would surface and blow, we would excitedly sight their spouts, and watch for gray whale backs, fins, tails, general frolicsome splashes and dives. In attempting photography we achieved hundreds of shots of the sail.
And the boat's side.
And the, MIND the BOOM! There is a gray whale tail in that thar photo. See it? Erm, use your imagination, do.
Returning to harbor, a view of sea lions sunning on a convenient marker buoy.
Panoramic view of other sailing rigs.
Our intrepid sailors, returned to port, rather windblown. Now then, where's the rum?
