... or more precisely last weekend, with a candlelit carol service at Jay's college chapel. It was lovely but I got very tired of holding my candle after only the first carol.
And all verses of every carol were sung - even the weird verses about wombs and tombs normally left out to save people's freezing feet and numb bums.
Last night we went late night Christmas shopping in Broadway, surely the most Christmassy village in England, like a Thomas Kincaid snowglobe. We were surprised walking down the dark streets, jostling with people nursing mulled wine handed out at the shops, to bump into.... a camel! all done up in the trappings of a three-kings-camel, and very stately and dignified he was too. Only a jewelled headcollar, not even a bit to lead him with (Clyde take note!) apparently he was one of Joseph's Amazing Camels.
Tonight Jay, STPD and I are going on a steam train to Winchcombe where there will be carols on the platorm, followed by a return trip to Toddington and mince pie and spiced wine at the Flag 'N Whistle.
Our Xmas schedule looks quite exhausting:
Sun 29th Nov Carols by Candlelight LMH
Fri 4th Dec collect Jay, late night shopping Broadway
Sat 5th Dec Carols Train 7pm
Fri 11th Dec Carols at Charingworth Court - 6:45 for 7:30
Sat 12th Dec Toddington Xmas Dinner train
Tues 15th Holy Apostles Playgroup Nativity )kindly invited by Chrissie)
Thurs 17th Oxford Christmas Market
Sat 19th Dec Schola Cantorum Messiah, Tewkesbury Abbey
Tues 22 Dec Talland School Christmas Dressage Display
Wed 30th Nutcracker, Covent Garden, London
It looks a leetle bit exhausting but we like to Do Christmas properly
The tree at LMH. We were all squabbling too vigorously to get a really good picture.
Wow, that is harder work than being at work for the fortnight.
If I was part of your family I would have to run away from home for Christmas rather than face all that.
If I had to pick one as a favourite , I would pick the Xmas dinner train as I do like dinners and also trains once I am on them and have a seat.
well we all momentarily wished we had run away from the Carols Train when there was only tea and coffee at the Flag and Whistle afterwards, and not the Mulled wine or Punch I had promised STPD. The mince pies were warm and very delicious, though.
I had four mince pies yesterday.....
Looks like a wonderful list of events.
The camels are just terrific.
Around here, people bring llamas to public events; it seems to be the latest craze. I heard one of the fire fighters the other day, telling how she had paid to hug a llama at a fund raising event, and how soft and cuddly and charming the animal was.
That sounds like just the Christmas I'd have if only I were not so lazy
Love the idea of bumping into camels (and Llamas too)
Was surprised about the camels not needing bits etc. I thought they were less trainable than horses. Mind you most of my camel knowledge comes from the discworld books, so perhaps I'm not a reliable authority
Dinner on the GWSR was a real treat
Looks cosy inside, doesn't it?

The platform was dark and chilly:

Festive tables - crackers, canapes, and hot mulled wine!

For those interested in menus we had:
Gravadlax on a bed of little leafy bits
Spiced Parsnip Soup (Mr M had this and it was the best soup I've ever tasted)
Roast Turkey etc (or game casserole)
White and Dark Chocolate Mousse (Mr M)
Christmas Pud (me, very nice but not enough custard)
Cheese Board - including a lovely Xmas Pudding Wensleydale (Wallace would prob not approve)
Mince pies
Ferrero Rochers (brought home for Jay, left behind.)
It was a most excellent occasion indeed.
Did they do the platform up specially to be all Ye Olde , or does it always look like that.
I love the idea of christmas puddings made of cheese , that is a brilliant idea.
I would have brought the Ferrerros home too I can't stand them.
Is there a Ladies' platform too?
Eccles
The platform always looks like that. It is Olde.
I don't mind Ferrero Rochers myself so if your prize for the Quiz was a big box then you know where to send 'em
