merry and STPD are off to Wimbledon tomorrow(Friday 3rd July) - we drew tickets in the ballot for No I Court - very exciting - been years since I last went (with Chrissie!) and Helen has never been, so it should be a great day out.

We've just checked the Order of Play for tomorrow and we may have been very lucky indeed - it looks like my all-time tennis heroine may be on No 1 court tomorrow :love

Should be fun!   Nice to see Tracy Austin is playing as well.
Hope you both enjoy your day out merry :)
Oh, what fun! You'll have to tell us all the lovely details upon return.
I remember many years ago that Martina was waiting for her opponent at the start of a match at Wimbledon, and had a knock about with one of the ball girls. I thought, what a nice gesture. It gave a wonderful memory to a teenage tennis fan that will probably last a lifetime. How many people can say that they played a game of tennis with Martina Navratilova at Wimbledon?
Hope you had a wonderful time at Wimbledon, what a day to be there too! Hope you thought of us all those years ago enjoying our Pimms and strawberries and cream! Watched Murray's match with a Pimms in hand here so cheers to you!! You will have to let me know how you enter the ballot for tickets! Wouldn't mind a try at it.
:)

We had an absolutely amazing day  :D  (haven't recovered yet or come down to earth!)

We seemed to have a charmed time - all the trains, taxis, buses and tubes just rolled up and worked the way they should, arrived at Wimbledon around 10:45.  Spent some time wandering round, it was busy but not horribly overcrowded.  Our seats were amazing (Court No 1 has been totally revamped) - surprisingly close to the players but slightly raised above them for a superb view.

The first match was Venus and Serena against the top seeds Cara Black and Liesel Huber - you could see that these were a good doubles pair, but no match for the Williams sisters who were on fine form, served at 118 mph (!) and played with a lot of volleying finesse and power (apparently not so in their singles final today!)

Then my idol Martina :love came onto court with Helen Sukova, Tracey Austin, Kathy Rinaldi-as-was (now there's some names from the past!) and played a lovely match in fine humour.  Martina is still a joker (as per the knock-up-with-ballgirl account as told by Midge) and had the crowd charmed.  She always struck me as a good sort and it was lovely to see her.

[Chrissie, did we see Martina on Centre Court for five mins when we sat there for a short while the day we went?  or did I dream that.  I remember we watched Jana Novotna and she was there yesterday too!   We had Pimms and strawbs and I did indeed think of you and our day there together all those years ago  :cuddle ]

After that we had a good old wander, spent a fortune in the well-stocked and rather swanky Wimbledon shop and saw Annabel Croft attracting a good crowd on an outside court being thrashed in a Mixed, she looked very lovely as ever with the same mop of long lustrous dark hair (a favourite of you gents, I'm sure ;)

Back to our seats for a last session, Cara Black with her handsome partner Leander somebody (STPD will know) in a Mixed, but sadly we had to leave before the end to catch my 19:22 train to Evesham, which was, staggeringly, on time yet again (unheard of for two in one day to be on time!)  Helen had reserved a seat for me which was good because the train was very busy.

It really was a lovely day and I'm still on a high from it, which is just as well as today has not been so good, with a pc that keeps flash-overheating and streaming hayfever (that's me not the pc.)

Unless it's not hayfever at all - overheard on the train, woman behind me:

"I'm on the train!  bla blah blah cough cough cough.  Yes I've still got - It.  No I'm NOT saying what it is here, I'd probably be lynched hahaha!"

Oink! :huh

Forgot to say, of course Andy Murray was losing to Roddick on Centre Court throughout the afternoon.  We caught a bit of it on the huge TV screen at Aorangi Hill (covered with people so not a stalk of grass was visible) and heard the cheers and sighs :( from our seats on Court 1.

Hopefully STPD will post at some point and we'll have some pictures to add soon.

It Eccs wot told the tale of Martina and the ball-girl.   I did not know it.
