Last weekend STPD, Jay and Mr M and I met up at Lady Margaret Hall for Boathouse Day.  We had planned our outfits with care, thinking it would be all Brideshead and everything, floating about on the green parks of LMH in our blazers and boating shoes, it it wasn't a bit like we expected and for a start it wasn't even at LMH and we had to walk all over Oxford and practically two miles down the Thames to find it.

Before we realised we had come to the wrong place, we saw the Gay Ducks of LMH (pictured elsewhere) and these nice little birdie families by the Cherwell in LMH gardens, are they Big Ducks, or Geese, or what?

Not helped by the locals telling us the boathouse was at the head of the river, which I thought mean we needed to walk upstream to find the source of the Thames, but which turned out to be a pub called the Head of the River.   :(

Hoever in the end it turned out to be lots of jolly fun and Jay and I took a turn as rowing crew of one of the Oxford 8-man racing boats  for about two miles of hard exercise!

And I did a Grace Darling and rescued a skiff that had lost its rudder by pulling it to the bank like a canal pony.  Everyone else just sat there and laughed as I hurdled oars and capstans and grabbed the oar to pull it to shore.   Unfortunately no picture.

Sounds like it was fun in the end. I've 'borrowed' the duck pictures for my desktop. :)

I wish I'd been there. I could have done with the rowing exercise and it is a lovely spot isn't it.

What a nice tale. The geese are canada geese. :)
