The Polar Bear was kept in the zoo on the island for experiments and later escaped to the sahara where it died.
Episodes 1-4
If you find yourself unexpectedly lost in the jungle it is a bad idea to shout out for your friends as baddies can also hear you.
Health and Safety regulations are stupid and what use is a first aid kit without sharp pointy things in it.
People who live amongst English people but claim not to speak English almost always can really.
Well... here we go...
exciting! Episode 1 is in the dvd drive, and ready to go
I didn't notice any plasters.
Jack did need one but he had to manage with a bit of toilet tissue.
I miss the plasters already.
Well I thoroughly enjoyed the first episode.
I'm not sure I understand it all yet. This is 'Lost' after all and you are meant to be much of the time.
There seem to be two parallel realities at the moment, but the off-Island one is not simply one in which the plane didn't crash. It might fit if the change in reality were further back.
In one reality the Island was destroyed in a nuclear explosion in 1977 was it?. So the plane didn't crash, but long before that Desmond didn't end up there, Penny didn't search for him and so on. This could have had a knock on effect on the lives of the Oceanic Air Flight 815 passengers even before they got on the plane. They certainly seemed different. Hurley saying he was lucky (not cursed). Jack looking human and not like a scruffy drunk.
Oh and we saw Desmond on the plane (unless that was a ghost) which is possible since he wouldn't be on the island.
I love that the evil counterpart to Jacob IS the smoke monster. We thought early on that the 'power' on the island seemed to be bad one minute and good the next. That now makes a little more sense.
Perhaps if I watched it all from the beginning now I'd understand it better and one day I expect I will.
I thought it daft that after Hurley said he had a way to bring Sayid back from certain death that no one even considered taking Juliet along. Surely it was worth a try? Since we had the guy along who talks to dead people they could even have asked her what she preferred
They all seem different and nicer in the alternative reality.
Most of them seemed nicer. Jack, certainly, I didn't want to smack him nearly so often in that alternate reality. Not Kate, she was just as violent and simpery as ever.
It was very exciting but I didn't want to see Juliet alive after a year of thinking her dead only to watch her die all over again just so she could mumble a cryptic word or two
Great stuff! more tonight
I don't understand it really. I know as Pani says we are supposed to be lost so this is only to be expected.
If the island was destroyed by a nuclear bomb and the plane didn't crash what are they all still doing there.
Hurley was always lucky really, people around him may have dropped dead but he has not needed plasters in any of the series has he.
I loved seeing the Island deep underwater like a lost, ruined city.
Did something made Time split in two? So we now have the alternate universe where the bomb going off in 1970 meant the island sank and the plane never crashed (Nice-Jack-Universe) and the proper one where everything is carrying on as if the bomb didn't have any effect on the future.
Liking the Japanese leader ('he doesn't have much of a sense of humour') though my enthusiasm waned a little when he stopped Jack from swallowing the poison.
Why didn'tanyone think to sling Juliet in the van along with Sayid and see if a dip in the Spring would revive her too? It is obviously a place to take people who have wounds-that-need-more-than-plasters.
So... when the Losties arrived on the island.... there were Others (Dharma-camp others) and then there were Other Others (Temple Others.) The ordinary Others knew the plane was coming (they had a List, supplied them by Jacob? of 'candidates') but although it was all pre-ordained and everything they had to pretend they were savages and that absolutely Nothing Was Going On.
Then there was Desmond manning the abandoned Dharma station. Which still gets regular supply drops (from Widmore?)
Jacob is good? and Loki is Bad...
Everyone would have been much nicer if the Island had never existed and Ben a History teacher.
Have I missed anything so far?
If the Series 3 others had the same list why did they only want some of the people off the list for their bag over the head exercise.
No news on the polar bear, wouldn't the bomb have changed its life too and it would be living at the north pole or something.
It is all proof we should have all gone to sleep in the 1970s
and stayed there. Life is far too complicated. I know my life went down hill rapidly from 1980 onwards. Which is interestingly exactly 30 years to the day today.
If there is someone 30 years ago waiting to press that button, I wish they would. I agree about the alternative reality being so much nicer.
