I just watched the latest Star Trek film and was very pleased. I was prepared to groan my way through something knocked up on the cheap and wildly inconsistent. I was very surprised by the great job they made of it. I enjoyed every second.
I better not be specific, but the plot was great, the actors just right for their parts and the inconsistencies acceptable and explainable.
Also it seems to me they have set it up so they can carry on and make 10 more films/series. I hope that wasn't accidental.
Can't say why, but I think given the way it ended they meant it to do just that.
Definitely worth a watch if ST is your cup of tea.I went to see it with Thingummie Minor; surprisingly she dragged me to it rather than t'other way round. I didn't think I'd like it with a bunch of snot nosed brats playing the old parts, but I was wrong there. It was a ton of fun, and I quite enjoyed it.
I'm not sure why they chose to play Spok so emotive though, being as he's a Vulcan...? And it took a bit of hmm-ing, that Kirk and Chekov were nearly the same age.
My only major disappointment was that they failed to repair their split infinitive. le sigh.
I think the plan is a minimum of two more sequels with this particular cast.Spock is only half vulcan, he has human emotions but is a bit confused about them.
Saw this at the cinema, it was pretty enjoyable. I went with a mate who knew nothing at all about Star Trek (and I really do mean nothing) and just wanted to see it because he fancies the actor who plays Spock/Sylar, so I had to explain every single in-joke and catchphrase and why the character who died was wearing a red shirt and so on. He kept asking me to teach him "that thing with the hand" too

I agree. They should have thought to totally and completely repair it. Eccles
I'm pleased to hear that they will be carrying on with it. You can't have too much Star Trek.
As for the emotion thing I did find that odd, but it does sort of fit.
I think when they first introduced the Vulcans in the beginning the implication was that they were all emotionless. In the various books though they spoke of them as being very emotional and having to use self control so as not to tear people's heads off
