Creature just been watching the Girl Julia walking in high-up places in the Lake District.
He has a shocking head for heights and it made him feel ill.
Eccles do like watching Julia Bradbury too. Wergh.
I caught the end of this and then went straight into Masterchef where they were cooking tiny bloody birds - that made me feel a bit queasy too!
I'm not keen on birds at the best of times and ones oozing blood on a plate even less so.
Then it was straight into Horizon and monkeys stealing cocktails from beside beach-loungers - glugging them down and lurching off like my dear old Nan after a drop of sherry - !
It was a great night on BBC 2
How I miss Beeb telly! Well, actually I miss telly in general, though if you'd told me that a coupla years ago, I would have protested I scarcely ever watch it.
As the autumn weather has started, and digital TV reception worsens, I'm down to two channels, [one featuring 100 percent commercials if you can imagine that] neither of which offers news and weather. I can't even get the Spanish channel anymore.
I was just searching the web in hopes that Season 2 of George Gently would be out on DVD soon. Nought of the sort, however.
We get a once-weekly local paper which sometimes actually refers to our neck of the woods' events. Back to Colonial times, aren't we?
Ah, progress in the technological age. le sigh....
Seems to me you need a wok on the side of your house, Asy. So long as you have a clear line of sight to your chosen satellite you shouldn't have any reception problems.
Hmm. We've been told that neither rooftop satelite dish nor exterior antenna is safe to install on a vintage 1810 house with vintage 1920s electrical wiring. There is no proper grounding available.
Perhaps this is inaccurate?
We are on the side of Catoctin Mountain, surrounded by forest, and lightning strikes are so frequent that we scurry about, unplugging everything in the household whenever we hear the distant roll of thunder. Surge protectors are useless. Even the buried telephone lines burn out from time to time.
Ah, I didn't realise your house was that old! However, provided you have a clear line of sight to the required satellite(s), a rooftop dish is unnecessary. You can have one on a patio slab in the garden. This would reduce the chance of a lightning strike since there would be higher things around.
If your water pipes are copper then they are usually sufficient for earthing although if your wiring is 1920's then it'd be a very good idea to get it checked by a qualified electrician. Old electrical insulation perishes over time and it could become dangerous.
Of the dishes I've seen locally, all are on the ground.
The neighborhood dates from Colonial times; the main room of our 1810 house likely started as a log cabin, and appears to be Colonial era, but I have yet to document it.
And there is no doubt, the house needs a lot of repairs. This is one of the reasons I haven't justified to myself the expense of satellite technology. Until the government intervened, I was receiving free TV, and was perfectly content. Better living through bureaucracy, yay.
But thanks for confirming the rumor that we'd have to have a ground installation. It sounded like folks knew whereof they spoke on that subject, but good to have an outside opinion.
