Today's news is that being overweight is good for old people.

If you survive to be 70, the health benefits of being overweight i.e. not dying of malnutrition outweigh the risk i.e. dropping down dead of heart attacks.

So that is something to look forward to isn't it.

Curious. How overweight does one have to be? Do we have to smoke and drink as well?
Does it have to be over 70? I'd hate to think I have to wait a decade and a half before I can have a decent meal (that fills me up)
:D

I think they have only done the research on people over 70 so far.

That doesn't mean it doesn't apply to younger people though.

There is another news story saying the gov has underestimated how much the care in people's own homes will cost. This was if you remember supposed to be a nicer and cheaper plan to putting people in old folks homes.

Do you think they are saying over 70s can be overweight so that more of them will shuffle off the mortal coil sooner and then not need care in their homes. Is this too cynical of me to think of such things.

What is overweight changes over time anyway. I The BMI allowed is now at least a stone heavier than we were being told in the 1970s/80s was overweight.

Perhaps when we are 70 , only people who can't fit through the door will be thought overweight.

With houses shrinking in size year on year, people unable to get through doors will become a bigger problem in future. even if people stay the same size.
Our Gran is overweight and she will be 82 this year.

One of Creature's colleagues (2 years younger than Creature) has worked there for 30 years, still takes the same clothes size as he did 30 years ago, does a lot of walking, eats properly...................... and had a minor stroke in the office after Creature had gone home last Tuesday.

So you never can tell wot going to happen.
