Today, my binmen left, in a plastic bag, a magazine plus a flexible creditcard sized bit of plastic with a recycling message on it. They have therefore, in attempting to get us to recycle more, loaded with every householder in the authority's area a useless plastic bag plus a stupid piece of plastic that will go straight into either landfill or an incinerator.

The magazine, although produced using recycled paper, and will be recycled again, was of a high quality finish and probably used quite a lot of chlorine based pollutants to make it.

I have 2 wheelie bins now and it is getting very crowded.
We does have bags.   Creature still on his pink plastic bags for Ordinary, clear plastic bags for recycling, and the lady in the end house has yellow bags for medical waste wot a little van do come round to collect just after the main binmen.

Hampshire a beacon council for recycling, though it was a little embarrassing when it came out that HCC didn't actually recycle everything in the recycling bags for a few months because of lack of capacity.   They did truck some of it as far away as Essex, but some of it went into landfill.

When Our Gran found out she was Cross and wrote a letter to the Cabinet Member for Environment at HCC and told him off (name and address helpfully provided by Our Creature).   She received an abject and apologetic reply.

Now HCC ahead of govt targets, just as well because landfill tax goes up every year and the grant to part cover it doesn't go up as fast, wergh........................not Creature's worry, he have enuff to do with the VAT.

landfill tax goes up every year and the grant to part cover it doesn't go up as fast

Doesn't this strike anyone as being particularly stupid?

The government taxes local authorities on landfill then gives them a grant back to cover part of it, so it takes twice as many people to administer it.

If they just charged less tax then companies who are not local authorities would get cheaper rubbish dumping costs too.

Of course companies who aren't local authorities either dump rubbish illegally or sub contract to companies who do.

Well spotted, Furby and it's probably the reason. However I see no reason why they can't simply make local authorities exempt from the tax.

Government = Stupidity

More Government = More Stupidity

I think I see a pattern forming here. Anyone else spot the method of reaching zero stupidity?

Anarchy?
That's it. I know it sounds drastic, but the laws which are supposed to help and protect you and me are not enforced anyway. Criminals don't obey laws and rich/powerful people don't have to. That only leave daft people like us following the rules.
Where it goes wrong is that the people making the laws are either oblivious to or refuse to believe the idea that outlaws do not take notice of laws unless they are properly enforced.

It is the properly enforced that has stopped and why the country has gone to the dogs.

In the rubbish example, people who dump illegally should be spotted by members of the public (which they often are) and reported to the police (which they are but slightly less often) and then the police should catch them (very rare) and then the courts should punish them  (almost unknown)

In anarchy we would all dump our rubbish everywhere, and that couldn't be better than what we have now.

Cholera Typhoid etc
