Yes!   When Creature switched everything on last night we could not get Broadband, the lights on the router were out.   The green power light has already packed in some weeks ago, so Creature thought the router was dead.

However, we does have a Home Hub unopened from when Creature renewed his BT Broadband at a lower rate, so he tried that, and it could not pick up Broadband either.

So we will give it a few days, in case it a problem from the Upgrade, and then send for Help if we need to.

But it do mean that I can't do Puzzles etc.

Wergh  :(

That's terrible! You can't manage without net access these days.

If it was still off this morning I doubt it's at their end, but you should probably call them.

The power light thing does make it sound like your router has had it. I would imagine the spare one would need to be set up differently to work and maybe they can tell you how to do that.

If the broken one is theirs they will replace it anyway. I've had one die on me completely and my ISP replaced it in 24 hours. If you tell them all the lights are out they should accept that it's dead without any fuss.

Hope you get it sorted soon. If you get withdrawal symptoms from not doing the puzzles maybe you can do a crosswergh puzzle for the time being.
Poor Midge and poor Creature!  we all know the dread of anything going wrong with our connection :( Hope you get it sorted soon.

We can't do without you too long, o stalwart Puzzle-Cat.

:kissy

The Hub has a CD to help set it up.   But if you want to set up the Hub manually, then you wait for the green Broadband light to come on before you connect it to the computer with the Ethernet cable.

Of course Creature didn't read the book before he connected it all up, including the Ethernet cable...............so Windows found the Hub and did some configuring.............................

So Creature might decide to reset the Hub to its default settings (apparently there is a Button you can press) and then use the CD to install it when the green light for Broadband comes on.

But we will give it 24 hours from tonight to get working.

Wergh.

Three hours to go.

Is it nearly working yet.

Yes! :D

The new Hub is working.   Can anybody tell Creature how to make sure that nobody can access the Wireless bit of it, and also keep his Computer safe?

I cut the aerial off on mine.
Drastic but efficacious..................I'll ask Creature to think about it.

In the meantime Creature has gone to BTHomeHub to change the hub password from its default to something more sensible.

Creature would like to change the username as well, but hasn't found out how to do that yet.

BTHomehub says that the Hub has no wireless connections to any of Creature's equipment, only the ethernet connection to the PC.

Creature has disabled the wireless connections.

Is Creature safe now (so far as he can be safe, other SUBLs seem to think BT HomeHub is full of security holes)  so far as the Hub is concerned?

Glad to see you back, Midge.

Off hand I'd say you covered it. One router I had you couldn't change the username, but I decided it didn't matter too much as long as you had changed the password.

Since you have also disabled the wireless that prevents 99.9% of all intrusions I would think.

Perhaps we can google and find exactly what security problems they mean, but you're already safer than most people as nearly everyone leaves the default password in.

If they supplied the router that broke you should probably still ask them to replace it as then you will have a spare. Or keep the homehub one as a spare.
