There are a number of whinge type threads at the moment (Winter 2009) on the topic of When Good Electrical Things Go Bad.
I have decided to collect them altogether in one thread in a Research Suggests sort of way. So I can keep track of if the electrical world as we know it is collapsing following hot on the footsteps of the financial universe.
We have had
Merrys Hard Drive
Panis Hard Drive
More of Panis Hard Drives
Furbys Freeview settop box the day before she needs it and a month after it is out of guarantee
Furbys work thing , very big very expensive
Furbys PC Power Supply
Furbys bedroom television the day after she bought a new set top box for it ready for the digital switch over
Furbys other television old but was still in working order, the day after the bedroom television broke and it took up its place as reserve
Perhaps I should just have bought a new toaster and allowed it to be a sacrifice to the God of Electrical Items.
Oh dear
you're worse off than I am. I'd rather replace (and in some cases repair) a hard drive than a TV. I hope you're getting a replacement quickly.
But yes any more bad electrical things anyone?
Can I add the Pc on the next desk to Furby at Furby's work.
And my CD player drawer tray has broken. But I can still use the player if I prise it open with my fingers to load the CD.
It has to be me this month doesn't it, I wonder if I can get myself degaussed and grounded.
My food processor - the little plastic thingy snapped off the other day, the one that goes into the slot and it won't work without it. New one purchased at same time as toaster.
Second laptop mouse died. The first one there was a fairly obvious reason for death, namely constantly being banged hard on a wooden table top. The second needs an inquest as it s suffering from a sort of intermittent Death and occasionally flickers back into a short-lived life, which is Bad, really, as then instead of a quick clean binning it goes on the shelf with all the other things that work sometimes.
My DVD player's eject tray keeps going in and out after I switch it on. When it gets tired of playing with the tray it then allow me to play a DVD. I think it's about four years old.
Ah yes, a mouse.
My plasticky mouse that Furby prefers broke recently didn't it and I had to whinge about new mices being metally.
I agree with Merry that electrical things should make up their minds and either live or die so easy decsions on their futures can be made.
I had to switch a television on today. This television does not belong to me and was allegedly previously in working order but is now not in working order.
All I did was look at it and press its little on/off button.
Honestly.
I am really scared now about my electrical extermination powers and perhaps you should all stop reading my posts in case they are toxic.
If only I could divert this energy as the daleks do into destroying my enemies.
I think you should practise with this power. Stare at a TV (if you can get one working) showing the House of Commons. You might try thinking "I want to make toast" since that has worked well before in focusing the bad energy
Any bets on the Large Hadron Collider being next in the list.
Today the TV signals are switched so I went around to an elderly relatives house as suggested to check she was ok with re tuning her televisions. While I was there her electricity supply was cut off due to a fault. I insist that the fault was not my fault.
My electric fan heater has blown up, that wasn't my fault either.
Meanwhile toasters are currently on their best behaviour and I haven't broken a toaster again yet.
