I have done a test of using the gas for tea and toast this week and I have used the same amount of electric and twice as much gas and it is only Thursday.
After a few months of OWL-practice, Npower have recalculated our predicted usage, down by a whole daily Watt!   I think the OWL is instilling good habits into us as it is very alarming to see it leap from its usual 3 (pence per hour) to 40 (when the kettle or dishwasher is on) and very satisfying on the occasional times it's registering a mere 1 (only when no computers are on.)

One of Mr M's bowls' friends saw our OWL and was so excited at the prospect of also being able to curb his wife's excessive use of kettle, microwave, etc, he rushe dout and bought one.  It;s a bit fancier than ours, I must get details to see what its extra features are.  (admonitory electric shocks when you turn on a sneaky extra light, perhaps.)

We had a powercut last night and saw the OWL register 0 for the first time.  It was very pleasing.  Bonus marks to QT, my little pink notebook, whose battery lasted long enough for me to watch one whole episode of Twin Peaks.

So we're not going to save the planet this way then :D
