Update....
I put the plant container up against some wire netting but they absolutely refused to climb, so Hagsrus, you were right. 
I've moved them so they get maximum sunshine and they are sprawling nicely, and filling out the pot. It's sad that the flowers don't last very long though, a few hours at most and it's over.
Next year I will try to find the longer flowering variety.
Wondering if they self-seeded for this year?
