Slugs are the bane of gardening and they seem to really enjoy dahlias and strawberries.

What tips to get rid of the 'ikkle' things??.

Musn't be labour intensive.  :)

I have tended to use slug pellets in the past but only when it is unavoidable and they are causing too much damage because of the hazard to birds eating poisoned slugs.

Also straw around the strawberries seems to help but that is too much like hard work plus it ruins the 'look' of the garden - as I tend to mix strawberry plants within flowers so you don't get a boring run of everything looking the same.

Another thing I have done in the past is encourage birds as they eat them.

Any easy tips to get rid of them because in the house I now live they are rampant!!.  :cry

I wish I knew. They are rampant in my house and I don't even have a garden, so they must have run a long way to get to my kitchen.
Beer!    :beer

Honest!   Use the dregs from your tinnies / bottles, or the crap stuff you've confiscated from your aliens!

Should I leave it outside or on the kitchen floor?
lol Furby!

Open bottles prtially buried in the garden.

Unfortunately Furby doesn't have a garden. :(   ( put it by the bins or something Furbs )

Try building them a little pub made from a shoebox.

Stick it in the garden (or street) with some xmas lights on it and a sign saying "happy hour 6pm to 7pm" and that will do it.

Put little dishes of slug pellets on the bar too.

I have had the slug problem too :(

Trails all over the carpets in the morning and one 6 inches long waiting to welcome me in the loo one night - well it wasn't IN the loo - at first I thought one of the kids had had an um errrr accident on the loo carpet when I saw it

Mr merry seemed to be adept at getting rid of them - the cure seemed to involve a heavy boot and lots of kitchen paper, but I didn't stick around long enough to watch  :lol

I use kitchen paper without a heavy boot.

They do seem to like the early hours to show themselves.

I have seen them on the draining board or climbing up the fridge or washer or on the work surfaces when I have got up at 3am and gone downstairs.

Otherwise I only see their slime.

The beer idea seems excellent if you drink beer.  :)

I would certainly try that but unfortunately I don't drink beer so couldn't give the slugs the dregs.  :(

The cost of buying beer just for the darn slugs would probably cost more than the pellets.

Any more ideas to solve this problem??.  :ohwell

I thought the traditional idea was to throw salt on them

Don't they shrivel up and die then, like the Wicked Witch of the West?
