The most popular knives in our house are what I called Butter Knives though we use them for any general purpose for which a small knife is fit.  Much squabbling breaks out over the remaining three especially as the supply constantly dwindles owing to occasional melting incidents (don't ask).  I don't know where they came from, I suspect they are hand-me-downs from various family collections, but there won't be any more so I decided to buy some.

First of all I discovered they aren't called Butter Knives at all - those have a blade flattened and rounded at the tip - but Tea Knives.   The ones that are for sale New aren't so good (Progress = pointless-change-and-spoil) so I turned to Ebay.

I loved these with the pretty coloured handles but messed up my bidding and lost out at the last minute (they went for nearly £20, plus postage).  So the search is still on.

Anyone else like Tea Knives?

Yes. We have always used them. They feel nicer than nasty silver ones.

The ones we use are yellowy bone handled not coloured with one exception. I prefer the bone to the plastic.  I have never known the bone ones melt but the handles fall off.

I have some my mummy gave me many years ago  :)  but they are very dirty looking now.

These are my very own collection
1. Child's knife
2. Blue handled knife.
3. Adult knife that Furby eats off every day.
4. Butter knife for Furby toast and icing cakes .

I have quite a few of the butter knife type ones so I can always make do with them when the tea knife wears out, and if they are worthless (20 quid for a complete set in its box sounds hopeful doesn't it) I may get some more.

That takes me back a bit because we used to have lots just like those, but they are all gone now.

They were nice, but when they got old I found that the little metal bits where the handle joins would get loose and also hard to keep clean.

It seems to me that they were more flexible than other knives so were better for spreading.

I had a set of six of those, which came with tea forks and tea spoons also [all handles were pale blue] but we are down to just two spoons, a knife and no forks.

The handles do come loose and eventually break off, I reckon.

Whenever we need to buy anything on eBay, we get Kiddlebit7 to do the bidding, since she is the eMpress of eBay.

I love the picture of the Furby knives.  They have History, and must be treasured.

I wish Kiddlebit7 had been here to stay my hand from bidding too soon :( you need a strong nerve to be a superwhizzy bidder and I sometimes panic at the last moment.  It did cost me thos enice knives and until I forget them in all their pastel loveliness I have no heart to search for mere ordinary ones.

This is a nice topic.  I find I am very much more interested in people's tea knives than in politics.

I have been very lucky and inherited some Tea Knives, with History.  And they have coloured handles -  and they are so pretty!

You see? sometimes real treasure does come your way, if you are very lucky, and have good friends  :hug

Yay and hurray! Are we to be treated to a photo of them?
You certainly are.  I will rally them all to pose for a phot-shoot  :D
Can I show off some nice tea spoons.

I have had these for over 20 years and they were not new then.

I like them because they have spoon shaped spoons, have you noticed that new tea spoons are flat not spoon shaped. I don't know why, perhaps it is for health and safety reasons or to make it tougher for people who use spoons to overdose.

They look as though they are dirty now but cannot be cleaned as what has happened is that the silver stuff is wearing off the spoons and the dirt is actually the metal underneath and the coloured handes are scuffed like your shoes get scuffed.
