I can't believe how many pidgeons there are these days.

Flocks and Flocks of the things.

They have really thrived since people stopped eating pidgeon pie haven't they?

:lol  Are normal pigeons the ones you can put in a pie, or do you have to have special pie-pigeons?  If so we could all feed ourselves with virtually no trips to Lidl or Tesco deliveries so long as we were prepared for a bit of pidgicide.

I don't much like them, they always look dirty with diseased beaks and feet, though I have a nice picture of little STPD in Trafalgar Square aged 6, wearing a smart straw boater and pale blue trews (children didn't wear nylon football strip all the time in those days) - absolutely covered in pigeons and a smile of delight on her little face.  (I think we had watched Mary Poppins one too many times or something.)

I think you'd have to marinate our pigeons in disinfectant before eating one.  Perhaps ones found in the countryside might be ok though I don't think there would be much meat on them.
The pigeons in our town centres are domesticated pigeons that have escaped and gone feral. These are descended from rock doves, and subsequent generations in the feral population revert to the original rock dove colouration. The pigeons eaten in pies are, I suspect, wood pigeons. It is apparently legal to shoot and eat these birds as they are considered to be an agricultural pest.
