Um, goodbye and thanks for all the fish n chips.

That bane of living under the Mason Dixon Line, an ice storm is about to blanket us in heavy slippery powerline destroying road blocking messiness.

Power will almost certainly go out, and we'll be sitting in the cold and dark for who knows how long?

Thingummie minor cancelled her weekend trip home. Thingummie major is splitting a month's worth of firewood, and Asy is about to make one last journey to the grocery store before the storm descends.

See you later I hope.  :beer

I hope so too.
You do sound as though you have the situation under control.

Everyone should really have plans like candles in the cupboards and the ability to buy and store food for a few weeks, but many people these days are so used to never going without that they lost those sort of skills.

Oh no!  Everything crossed for you!

A power cut can be interesting and fun - as you all cosy down with candles and blankets.  Then comes the second hour ....  :lol

Hope it's all over soon, with nolasting damage.

In a spirit of solidarity, Pani also had a power-cut last night, which he is normally annoyingly smug about never getting which is very rare for his populous spot beside the Thames.

Hope you get missed by the worst of it, Asy. My 10 minute power cut was mildly inconvenient, but to be without power for an indefinite time and have the roads blocked must be seriously scary.
Thanks for kind replies.

Furbs, our chief problem is the power company has one emergency response team for the entire east coast. So when we need it here in Virginia, chances are that it is already busy in North Carolina. [do go look at a map and figure out how many miles away....] That saves the CEO millions of dollars towards his all-important salary.

:lol  Merry... "then comes the second hour"

and Pani, thanks for having the power outage in our stead; we greatly appreciate your sacrifice.

Pleased to report that we [so far] have had only an ordinary snow storm rather than the threatened down pour of ice pellets.

Although there isn't a thaw predicted any time soon.  :rolleyes

250 miles?   That rather like one emergency team for everywhere between Southampton and Manchester, wergh.

I never knew Chesapeake Bay was so long.

Here in the UK our power companies tend to be regionally based, though it is quite possible for Our Gran in Winchester to pay Scottish Power for her electricity when it comes down the cable that Southern Electricity put in when her house was built 50 years ago.   If anything went wrong with the electricity I think SP would get SSE to deal with it on their behalf.

Hi, MidgeKitty!

Don't forget to put West Virginia in as well as Virginia and North Carolina, and then you'll have a proper image of the monstrosity that is Dominion Power Company.

That saves the CEO millions of dollars towards his all-important salary

$14.3 million for Thomas Farrell in 2008, so I understand.
