Jay heard yesterday she had won one of the Nuffield Department of Medicine's Prize Studentships - and will be working on her first choice of project "The Identification and Analysis of Genetic Variants that Mediate the Responses to Cancer Therapies".  It's a four year funded position which leads to a DPhil in Clinical Medicine and it neatly combines a couple of her interests.

This is good news for me too as she will finally be off my hands won't be too far away - the Nuffield is in Oxford so I needn't miss out on my monthly trips there shopping and may even finally get to visit the Bodleian!  :D   And it's good news for Clyde because she will be able to earn him more years living his life of freedom and sunrises over grassy fields and hills.

More even than her being awarded the place, I'm so very proud of her for going for the interview and having to give her powerpoint project presentation to a roomful of 'top cheeses' after a disastrous and demoralising interview the week before (at a different institute).   It was quite a tough thing for her to do but she did it! and she pulled it off!   :thumbs

Well done my girlie.  :cuddle   The whisk of Clyde's 'lukkie tayle' did the trick this time!

Way to go Jay!  :clap  :thumbs

That is really something isn't it. Even I've heard of the Nuffield

Well done to Jay.

Four years funding is wonderful.

And if it is something one is interested in as well, that is doubly wonderful.

Merry that's absolutely wonderful - Jay is clearly very exceptional! You must be so proud of her - and yes, not just for being brilliant but for having the courage to go and prove it to these people (which must be really intimidating). Congratulations!
wd Jay!  :clap
Very impressive accomplishment, and sounds like a fascinating topic of research.

Congratulations - mega!

Wow, a scholarship in the identification and analysis of gobbledegook!
Joking aside, Jay, you've obviously worked hard at this and recognition is well deserved. Keep up the good work!

Frabjous day callooh callay!
Thanks everyone!   :grouphug   If you have met Jay you will know she is a shy girl with little self-confidence so I'm just so proud of her for going back for a second dose of interviews after the first knocked her for six.

A fortnight ago she called me in tears to sob that there was 'More bad news!' and the 'bad news' was that she had been shortlisted for the NDM and would therefore have to actually go and be grilled.  I pointed out that normally "bad news" meant three rejections instead of getting to interview but she genuinely wasn't convinced  :lol

We will be bed-sit-in-Headington-hunting for October soon :D

Absolutely thrilled that my god-daughter did indeed shine and her potential was recognised! What a fantastic achievement and such a worthwhile application of exceptional talent! Well done Jay we are all so pleased for you!
PS I bet Merry and Mr Merry are very proud too!  :clap
